Title: Serek Lincoln
Post by: TBird1958 on September 20, 2020, 11:50:18 AM

Seems much inspired by Gibson of yore, except that headstock!

A lot of Serek's stuff seems "Gibson inspired", at least to my eyes. The headstock on this one has somewhat of a Warwick flavour I'd say.

I've never played any of his basses though. Wouldn't mind trying out a couple of them someday, although I'm not likely to be a part of his target market.

I came across a video of him playing one of his basses with a P-90 shaped pickup (but 4 pole). IIRC he winds them himself. Sounded good. Mahogany body. Definitely Gibson inspired.

The headstock doesn't quite work for me but the body is cool, the love child of a Q80 and a Grabber = a not so Fat Bottomed Girl!

I, too, find the Grabber influence appealing.  This is really a nice looking bass.

Tim Lefebvre plays a few and also a famous Dutch player. Great basses!

I like it. Bastard child of Ripper and Victory. The Vipper.

There's a 32" scale option. Specs for weight are "6-9 lbs". I'd take a 6 lbs. 32" bass any day.

Someone has to break it to you, Ilan: You're way too tall and lanky for anything but a long scale bass! Short scale basses are to tall people like fetish sex: A guilty (I'm Catholic!) pleasure, yes, but keep it confined to the bedroom please!

There, I said it where all others chose to remain silent.  8)

Here are two pics of me with a 30" mustang and a 25.5" 6-string piccolo bass otherwise known as a Tele.

Zappa seemed to like bassists with character who played a little 'out there'. The bassists weren't always the most technically able members of the Mothers, whereas the percussionists, keyboard players etc all had to be well drilled. Especially towards the end he liked having Scott Thunes in the band, even if Scott made mistakes. Scott played powerfully, and Zappa could take lengthy guitar solos.
