Heritage Auctions.  I don't know if you have to sign up to view this but thought I'd give it a shot

http://entertainment.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleNo=7050&lotNo=54448&type=wlem

"1968 Gibson EB-2 Brown Electric Bass Guitar, #519039. Moderate weather checking overall, no changed parts or modifications. Some possible evidence of heel re-glue or possibly typical late 1960s Gibson workmanship. Would benefit from neck reset. Original frets have minimal wear. Original hard case included (Victoria Luggage). Condition: Good. Estimate: $1,500 - up."

Interesting set of features - looks like no mute ever installed, plus the raised (from centre) crown logo

And in incredible condition too. Shame it isn't on ebay.

I've been following these auctions for about 2 months.  The selling prices including buyer's premium are usually pretty close to Ebay prices.

The shipping total book doesn't even list any walnut EB-2D's in 1968. There were only 239 made in cherry that year, I'm sure the numbers were less in walnut.

So do Heritage auctions have a good reputation? I might have to sign up

The EB2 shipping figures for walnuts are definately incomplete (just 12 single pups in '69, see EB2 shipping data), which is a shame because everyone selling one thinks it is ultra rare and bumps up the starting price. Same thing with Melody maker basses.

They certainly made two pickup walnut EB2s in 1970 and into 1971

Noted the reference to a recommendation to have the neck reset...? Blaming it on '68 construction quality... Nice looker, but... :-\
