Are you saying the Epi didn't sound as good to you on stage as the new bass?

Nowadays the PC police would try to prevent you from using that song title. Or some suicide victim's family would sue.

Phil, are you talking about buying that one, or putting your name on a home build?

If I were you I probably wouldn't put my name on a home build since the Phil brand already exists (or existed),  just to avoid confusion. But it might be fun to buy that one and tell everybody it came directly from your own Korean factory.

As long as it's not spalted (i.e. diseased and rotting) wood or that hideously ugly buckeye burl. That stuff makes Freddy Kruger look good by comparison.

Gibson Basses / Re: Hello, I am A Gibson Bass addict......

My very first guitar was a Gibson, first year Melody Maker my folks bought for me new in 1959. Wish I had kept that. It was a good little guitar, too bad I just thought of it as beginner's gear.

I think you're right. This article http://www.mi-pro.co.uk/news/29354/NAMM-NEWS-Gibson-Guitar-and-TC-Group-to-merge has more details and sure makes it sound like Henry will be in charge of "the new combined Gibson Guitar Corporation."

Gotta say, playing the bass on this song is nothing compared to the vocal chore, even the background (that's me!) stuff is very hard. We have to play this after we're warmed up a bit, it's just that hard.

Mark, I probably wasn't making myself clear. I was making a little joke about appearance, not criticizing the vocals. IMO Kim Wilde was very hot back in the day.

7-8 had its shining moments too. Like when Lister fooled Kryten into celebrating the start of Kochanski's period. And besides, Norman Lovett returned for 7-8.

I haven't seen Norman Lovett outside of Red Dwarf but with that deadpan delivery I'll bet he's great.

Gibson Basses / Swedish Bird Sighting
« on: January 18, 2008, 05:56:54 PM »
Mark's "Kids In America" video got me thinking about the version I saw a couple of years back by a Swedish girl pop duo called Shebang. Then I noticed a video of their cover of Sheena, and the bassist is playing a T-bird.

No idea who he is, or if they even have a regular backing band. Nothing I can find on their website, at least the English pages.

Oh yeah, I'm in love with Marina Ljung (the brunette).

Sorry Mark, our settings prevent embedding flash so I removed all the stuff that doesn't work and left the link.

Nice performance, one of my all-time favorite songs.

But I gotta say, your singer is no Kim Wilde in 1981. ;) Of course Kim Wilde 2008 isn't Kim Wilde 1981 either.  :D

:-[ Thanks, Daniel, but I can't take credit for the way most of us got to know each other...it really just sort of happened around me.

Thanks, George. We're here for people who want to be here. We have no problem with people hanging elsewhere too if it suits them.

I don't really think the forum depends on me, but over time Uwe and I just sort of became identified with a certain group of friends, and I'm glad we're able to offer a place to gather.

I also love the Red Dwarf and Hitch Hikers Guide themes (though HHG was originally radio).

Two of my favorites themes! Red Dwarf isn't well known in the US, but it's one of my favorite series ever. Too bad the only time I read about Craig Charles is when he's in trouble.
