Title: My heavily modified SG RI Bass live.
Post by: Chris P. on January 30, 2008, 01:47:07 AM
I already posted some pics at the 'Ibanez SG'-topic, but these are better. My heavily modified SG Reissue Bass and I at Paard van Troje, The Hague.

How have you modified it ?

I changed the 'SG' truss rod cover to a plain black one. ;)

does it sound better? :D

Uwe's legal analysis: Of course it does, but - as usual - we're not allowed to speak freely about it as one of ze Moderätör's many mantras is: "Trussrod covers do not influence sound." But as long as we know and we believe it's alright.

PS: Sorry for scribbling into your post, Rob, I was trying to quote your post, but accidentally hit the modify button which allows me to change your post (and only yours, I had that custom made for me ...  8)) and couldn't make it undone. Won't happen again.

What's wrong with the SG name, Chris? I always found it more descriptive than EB: An "EB" can be an SG shape bass, a Les Paul Junior shaped bass, a shortscale hollowbody, a long scale hollowbody (EB 650 and 750) or even a mock "Beatles bass" (EB-1 who forever will be viewed by the uninitiated as a copy of the Höfner rather than the other way around). With the SG moniker you automatically have the correct image in mind.

This kind of butchering shouldn't be tolerated.  We should report him to the trademark police!  After we all get our Bachbirds!   ;D

I'll bet it does sound better too!

Hey WTF!!
Where's my compliment to Chris about those cool pics?

We should've known that the invasive character of our German moderatör would burst out eventually!
Next thing we know is all Entartete Bassgitarren will be deleted from this board...

You look great with the bass Chris. It fits your body size.

So how do you like the bass in your band situation, compared to your others?

Chris, your countryman and fellow-bike-depletion-victim complimented profusely on those pictures, not sure whether he was serious or not on it though.   :-*

I'm glad it was only a truss rod cover and not something invasive* like changing the stock strings.

*Note: "Invasive" is not a reference to any past military conflicts.

Though it may reference medical procedures and/or sexual acts.

Hmmmm... so much for European sensiblities I retract the statement I made in the other thread........
Chris, the bass looks great on you, I have no doubt the new truss rod cover improves the sound  ;)

I won't get into the invasion discussion this time....;)

The bass actually sounds a lot better. 'SG' is engraved into this cover, so it has a little less weight than a plain cover. The extra added miligrams of weight of the black cover ad sustain, heaviness to the sound. It is slightly more neck heavy, but I'm used to that because of the T-Bird.

However great the outcome, I really missed having a poll where we could have voted for the new color of the truss rod cover.

Cool pix.

And what`s that thing between the top and cabinet?

Next time I'll make a poll!!

The 'thing' is a seventies Kustom bass head I bought for 50 euros. It ousnds pretty well and I only use it as a back up. I had some tube problems with my Orange and the Dutch agent replaced two of four power tubes. I ordered four new ones and I use this as back up.

Part of the charm of tubes is that they start deteriorating from the minute you start using them. Fortunately it's a very gradual wearing out, most of the time.

Kustoms were good enough for John Fogerty back in the day.

Women, tubes....both glow when hot, but women blow more often.

BTW: The shirt is a Ben Sherman. I always buy matching Ben Shermans for my basses. For all my ben Shermans: Look at www.myspace.com/chrispdekker. You have to be a member to view pics.
