Title: I made myself a body for that fretless Westone neck I have
Post by: Blazer on April 11, 2008, 08:58:25 AM
And despite the fact that that Westone neck doesn't have a Fender-like headstock, it doesn't look out of place at all.

The body is five pieces of Pine and I'll be finishing it in translucent red.

and let's be honest it looks a LOT better than what I innitially had in mind.

I would have liked the Klein-style body too, but not with that headstock. It does look okay with the J body.

Here's the bass put together just to check if everything works and it works just fine. At the moment of writing I have pulled it apart again and it recieved its first layers of red.

I think that's a better option than trying to reproduce the Westone body shape, which I really don't like.

I agree, that looks pretty darn cool!  Keep us posted.

Well you guys, the finishing in red like I planned didn't turn out the way I planned because through a screw up with the dosing of the thinner in the finish itself it began to flake leaving me with no other option but to strip the body and start over.

Here's the body with five layers of varnish and I must say it looks rather classy. I need to sand it smooth and polish it but I like the look it now has and I guess I'll stick with it.

Yeah I know the control plate looks like shit.

Looks good, its very satisfying to build your own bass and have it turn nice.

It gets addicting, be careful!

I think Blazer was hooked on guitar and bass building years ago. He works for a luthier.
