Maybe we should have all listened in the 50's when we were told to build bomb shelters.

Perhaps not the best option for flooding, though.

They just announced that we had the wetest June on record today; that's two consecutive months now...

The weather specialists noted that the jetstream has diverted south and that's the reason we've copped it...

Shades of "The Day After Tomorrow"

Oh yeah, someone else has noted (probably not that new news) that they've found some more Mayan tablets that note the 22nd December being the start of a new era - maybe not Armageddon after all... ;)

It's hard to tell the smoke plumes from the clouds....some of the smoke got up 25,000 feet or more.  Cool images, though.  Did you see me smiling and waving?   ;)

I hadn't heard about the new tablets being discovered but I am not surprised. The Mayan calendar is based on cycles and one person got the wrong idea from what it said before spreading it to anyone who would listen.
There are many in this world that call me Darrol, feel free to be apart of that group.

Perhaps we should think about the popularity of DISASTER movies and wonder who's cashing in - think of all the money that was made by specialists checking for Y2K compatibility...

The High park fire (Fort Collins) is contained in a non-populated area and they've let everyone back into their homes.  MUCH cleanup, and not everyone has power.  It's 100 degrees today and pretty hot work to clean up.  One gent yesterday said he came back and there was a bear roaming in his yard...they've been forced out of the hills and are foraging for food.

The Colorado Springs fire has cost millions in lost homes - but they're more than 50% contained and it seems to be away from the urban area where it did so much damage.

The other fires in Colorado don't seem to be as bad...so I guess we're making positive progress!

My smoker is fired up in the back yard and I'm getting ready to smoke brats, a ham and some salmon.  Tonight at 7:00 Dick Dale is playing at our local theater - my wife and I will be there!!!

Happy 4th of July, folks!

I actually thought about someone in the neighborhood pushing the panic button...

Here's how the smoked salmon turned out...
