Title: That NR II on GC's website
Post by: Denis on January 22, 2014, 07:16:47 AM
I emailed and got a link containing some pics. The poor thing needs some help.
Headstock repair and repaint, both done poorly said the guy at GC.

Yeah I have seen this, what GC is that at? What are they asking for it? Got a phone number?  ;D

I think it's in LA and is listed on GC's Vintage Gear page. They are asking $2300 for it, which I think is way high considering it has a headstock repair, crappy repaint, incorrect tuners, etc.

WAY high. The economy is still hurting, the NR craze has peaked imho. With Bach building a very nice and quite accurate NR and custom builders like Carlo putting out a high quality product and various people making pickups and parts these poor souls are just not that desirable. 'Course I still want 'em

Just remember, there are way worse forms of crazy than being Thunderbird crazy  ;)

Well said, Mark!

As it is now, I have an assortment of weird Thunderbirds, but the BaCH Series IIs are easily my favorites, and I've realized I like NRs more than regular T Birds. This is decidedly inconvenient in terms of a selection of vintage basses...

Holy moly!  Do ya think the neck is bowed as badly as it looks in the pics?  I'm inclined to believe it probably is, since the action is so high and the bridge is bottomed out.  That's virtually unplayable - lots of $$$ for a wall hanger.

I'd noticed that but forgot to mention it in my earlier posts. Maybe it just needs truss rod adjustments. Maybe the truss rod doesn't work anyway. The GC guy did tell me it was repaired poorly so I'm sure that's not helping it any.

Seems like a great deal, they give you $2300 to take it...oh wait I got that backwards...never mind.

For $2300 you could buy 2 of Carlo's birds, customised however you like.

Mark that is pretty much what I was thinking! I do want another Cataldo NR, pretty much the same as my siggy but in Ivernesse green, with a set neck and a slightly bigger headstock in Carlo's design.

Funny you should mention that...I'm about to go big in the paint options department and Inverness Green is at the top of the list.

$2300 will buy you about 1.6 average Cataldos these days, Mark.  New grandson in the pipeline. ;D
