Did your Guild arrive yet? These look great in white!

Here's what I did with my 301 the other day:

Thunderbucker 66S. I'm waiting on pickguard material so I can put the original aside. Should I keep the ring or lose it?

Sweet!  I, personally, would go it without the ring.

To make things even, you should take the B301 single coil and put it in an NR bird ;D
Contrary to what James Bond says, a good Gibson should be stirred, not shaken.

It pretty much sounds like a Thunderbird to me. I'm going to play around with it but I'll most likely put the original back in. No mods done at this point except a few extra screw holes in the pickup cavity.

so, i finally got the bass, and it's awesome! perfect neck just perfect. nice low action. sadly it has flats.(actually the best feeling flats i've played) so i need to buy some new strings. also i can't get over how light it is. i could only plug it into my dinky lil practice amp as it was kinda late and i have neighbors. but i am very very happy with my purchase. totally worth the $625. i paid. now i just need a new band...............................

Nice price. Glad you like it. The strings look like chromes or Ernie Ball flats. I ended up with the EB flats in the .050 to .105 gauge on my B 301 and I really like how they sound and feel on this bass compared to the rounds I tried. I don't just like them for old school thump either because I play them pick style a lot too and they kick and growl nicely for a flat on the Guild.

you play flats with a pick? weird. i may leave them on for a little while. like i said they do feel kinda nice for flats, which i've never liked too much.

"You play flats with a pick? Weird."

Huh? That's a classic recipe for the click sound!

Even this was played with flats and a pick!

And how do you think this sound by an obscure scouser bassist was achieved?  ;)

Let's not forget Carol Kaye, who always played flats with a pick.

Another flats/pick person here - not exclusively, but I've learned that it's an interesting combination that works for certain things. Congrats on the bass by the way!

The classic early Beach Boys bass sound that was blatantly ripped off for that The Flower Pot Men track.

I was practicing last Saturday and where I've had my amp turned too low, I was digging in too hard with my fingers on my EB flats on my Epi LP and my entire hand cramped and seized, forcing me to pluck the strings with the meat of my thumb because my fingers would not loosen. I'll have to try a pick there sometime. I've never tried one with flats.
