The Last Bass Outpost

You know PBG, I used my sealed Sunn 4x12" cab last night. I forgot how much mid-range punch a cab like that has. Almost painful if you crouch down in front of it, which I did.

(I'd changed the Sunn transducers since I'd blown two of them and put in JBL MI-12s back in 1989 or so. I used it for keyboards back then.  But now & then it's sure fun to use it for bass.)   

I've never laid hands on a Kubicki but I found this thread to be fascinating!!

In other bands I had the luxury of turning around and changing tone controls on my amp, especially after I changed basses. Which I'd do a lot being in a cover band, swapping between a bass with rounds and a bass with flats.

But now I'm in a "march or die" band that strives for 5 second pauses between many songs. Having a bass where I could make radical tone chhanges on the fly would be very helpful. No doubt a pedal would do the trick as well, but the bass in question is refinished and modded already so no harm done.

I'd have an active bass in my stable until recently. I especially miss the sounds I could get from an Alembic or the Ricky I put Alembic pickups and preamp into.

I'm seriously pondering doing the same with one of my Guilds which have the neck profile I love best. Was wondering if I'd have to change the pups as well as putting in a different circuit. Best of all worlds?   

Earlier Guild solid bodies were modelled after the EB-3. Then they created a line that looked more like Fenders. The one you are looking at followed those.

I love the look and even lost out on an Ebay auction or two. But when I finally tried one I found the neck to be way too chunky for my liking. But to put that into perspective, I also find P-bass necks too chunky.

Last night we debuted the new AC-15 live. He stands next to me It's plenty loud. Too loud sometimes. He told me the max he went to was 11 o'clock.
