Rickenbacker Basses / Two walnut Rickenbackers?
« on: February 04, 2016, 06:50:12 PM »

I loved my 4003W enough that I also ordered a 4003SW.

The S is slightly more comfortable without the binding, but they are both amazing basses.

I picked this up a while back and I thought that I'd share it with you.

I wanted to pick up a five string and I was figuring on either an American Standard Precision V or an EBMM Stingray HH (or maybe a HS). Precisions are usually the first bass that I reach for, but I have a 1995 Stingray 4 that gets some love too.

But then I ran across this. I had been curious about the Dimensions since they came out. I played it, and found that it has a feel and sound that is quite different. I'm not yet a wiz on five strings, but I use it some every day and it is getting more familiar.

Oh, and I had Pickguardian made a black guard for me so it fits in with the group.

Rickenbacker Basses / I'm now a RIC owner!

I ordered this 4003W this past summer and it came in this week. It is my first Rickenbacker and I'm loving the feel and the sound.

I now have a second Rickenbacker on order, this time a 4003SW.

The Outpost Cafe / Mark one off of the bucket list...

I've been gigging regularly as a drummer for thirty-nine years and as a hand percussionist for four.

I've filled in on bass for a song here and there, but I've never gigged as THE bassist. That is, not until last night. I played hand percussion and bass last night, had a blast.

I've been working hard to become a serious bassist for about three and a half years. My long term goal was to gig as a hand percussionist and bassist in addition to as a drummer. I can now say that I have.

I have a lot more to learn, I'm purely mediocre on bass at this time. But, I have good time and locked in with the guy who filled in as hand percussionist last night.

Fender Basses / Um... I couldn't help myself.
« on: July 22, 2014, 03:11:23 PM »
No, I didn't "need" another Precision.

I always thought the American Select Precisions were stunning, I also thought that it was highly unlikely that I'd ever own one. I was wrong. One popped up on ebay brand new, new old stock for a crazy cheap price. I took a leap of faith and bought. Wow, just wow.

The fingerboard is a work of art in itself.

Fender Basses / I picked up a Jazz bass...
« on: July 16, 2014, 08:14:28 AM »
I had an American Standard Jazz bass before, a 2011 in Charcoal frost with a maple neck. I got rid of it when I had a chance to pick up a (second) 60th Anniversary P. I love P basses, and couldn't pass up that chance.

I knew that eventually I'd add another Jazz bass to the fold when the time was right.

I stumbled upon this 2001 American Ash Jazz bass and loved the way that it plays.

The Outpost Cafe / Your favorite performance video...
« on: January 14, 2014, 02:03:46 AM »
I'm guessing that this has been done here before, but not for some time from what I can see.

Tell us about a performance video that just knocks your socks off and why.

Then post a link to it on youtube so that we can see (and hear) why.

I'll start.

First off, full disclosure. I 'm big fan of Jeff Beck and have been pretty much forever. So, of course I'm going to offer up a clip of Mr. Beck in action. To most, a clip of his performance at the Crossroads festival with Tal and Vinnie would be an obvious choice.

I'm going with one less obvious. He did a Les Paul tribute show in which he collaborated with Imelda May and her band. They cover "Walking in the sand" and just knock it out of the park. They horn section is great, they are swaying along to the music. Drummer Steve Rushton just kills it and Imelda's voice is as pretty and unique as she is.

Enjoy.

Bass Amps & Effects / I'm joining the ranks of Ampeg owners tomorrow.
« on: December 18, 2013, 11:21:33 PM »
It looks like I'm going to be picking up my first Ampeg head tomorrow, an older SVT 3 Pro.

I'm upgrading from a Fender Bassman 400, which has been a pretty good amp.

I'll post some photos once it is in my hands.

Next? I'm saving for an SVT cabinet.

Fender Basses / 60th Anniversary P bass owner... times two
« on: December 16, 2013, 11:26:02 PM »
I stumbled upon this forum when a I did a search regarding 60th Anniversary P basses. I own two of them, so I thought that I would join in. I noticed the thread was elderly, so I decided to start a new one.

I love Precisions. I love how they feel, how they sound, etc... The look of a common P-bass has never stirred me because it's so... common. When the 60th Anniversary P came out it caught my eye. It is essentially an American Standard P, a bass that I love to play. But, they dressed it up with a 50's-ish guard and control plate and gave it a retro vibe.

The look is polarizing. Everyone I know either thinks Oooo, cool, or Ewww, um... not so cool.

I bought the sunburst one (of which they only made 125 of) in early 2012. It didn't take long for it to become my favorite bass. I sold my Am Std P as it was redundant and my Am std Jazz as it wasn't EVER getting played. Recently I stumbled upon a used blonde 60th and just had to buy it. The good news for my bank account is that they only came in two finishes.

The original thread didn't have any photos of one, so here is a photo of both of mine next to my 72 Tele bass and in front of my 1964 Leedy drum kit.

The Outpost Cafe / Yup, another newbie...
« on: December 16, 2013, 07:53:44 PM »
Hi folks!

Drums are my primary instrument, and  I play hand percussion, but more and more as of late I've been playing bass. I have a few cool basses, take lessons and am now getting so that I am not exceptionally awful on this instrument.

I think that there can be a lot learned on forums, thank you for accepting me into this community.

I do have a question. If I see a thread that fits what I want to discuss, is it acceptable to open an older thread? Some forums prefer that you start a new thread, others prefer you to reactivate an older thread.
