NBD 2013 Gibson NR
« on: December 22, 2014, 04:04:13 PM »
Well I should have passed on this but I sold the first one I bought. Curt at the HOG found a pellham blue one in the basement. I should have one, Bill and I consulted us on this, not that they listened. I am not as critical as when I bought the first one, a perfectly good bass, just not much in common with a 60's NR. For most that is probably a good thing. Pics tomorrow. Merry Christmas to me ;)

Congrats. I do remember how you and Bill were consulted and how the higher-ups ignored this. But so long as you can accept it for what it is, you should enjoy it.

Sounds like the resolution of a long-time regret!

I'm sure the NR project started with enthusiasm at Gibson but succumbed to the convenience (and cost savings) of using current off the shelf parts.
I like mine except for the body being too thick and the damn thing is so heavy.

Congrats on the new bass! I still kind of regret selling my tobacco Explorer so quickly. One helluva looker! Odds are, some new pots would have gotten me the sound I had expected it to have.

Well I could hardly pass it up for the price! They only made 400 of them and I doubt I'll ever see Gibson enter these waters again. I have it all set up super low action. For now the only change I am going to make is sort out the controls, I'll even live with the black hardware. I plan on giving it some stage time as a back up, I have not had a modern Thunderbird onstage in years, I'd like to be able to fully review the bass in it's stock form. maybe at some pint I'll chrome it out and put a Thunderbucker in the neck position.

Pretty!  I'm generally a sucker for the color blue, and that's a nice one.

Wow, that's a great looking bass.

One can never have enough NRs :) Not to be critical of this bass but I'd take a Bach TH-1 anyday. Basses are all Different and I love 'em all. ;D

Very nice!  I love mine.  Chances are I will never be able to afford a real one, so when this fell in my lap, I couldn't resist!  One of 400 isn't anything to sneeze at!  :)

I think the black looks pretty great with that color and shape.  Not so much on anything else.

I would have loved it if the body and neck were a bit thinner but I do like the sound of mine.  I've used it a few times in the studio and its been great. Definitely worth having one as backup.

Great color combination, you only need a black pickguard now! :D
