Fender Basses / binding nubs on jazz block&binding necks
« on: June 20, 2008, 06:19:27 AM »
One thing that I have found no info about ...

Looking at 70's jazz basses I have seen sometimes that the necks have the binding covering the frets ends. If you look at this picture in the page (search in page for Binding Nubs) :

www.fretnotguitarrepair.com/frets.htm

you can see what I mean (in the pic there is a Les Paul, but the concept applies to fender jazzes too).

Sometimes the frets are placed over the binding and have the frets end filed as happens in unbound necks. I've seen that all the time in modern japan reissues, for example.

I wonder if the original in the seventies had the binding nubs covering fret ends (and so the ones that do not have it have been refretted or simply filed away) or if both ways of binding a neck in the factory were actually used, maybe in different periods..

I know that I'm splitting hairs here..but maybe fender experts have some info about it.

Thnx

Gibson Basses / thin white rope w/ EB2
« on: March 26, 2008, 07:39:21 AM »
I was looking in youtube for some of my teenage rock idols and I have found some of Thin White Rope videos, noticing that the bass player was using a EB2.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ifxM7PqYGfM&feature=related

I've seen them live back then but I dont remember which bass they were using..

BTW I love this band...It was one of my preferred and all their records are great, highly recommended !

Bass Amps & Effects / small bass amp
« on: February 18, 2008, 07:39:49 AM »
Hi,
I'm thinking about getting an amplifier for studio needs.
It should be ideally:

--integrated/combo
--small-ish enough
--all valve (or at least valve in the preamp)
--able to deal nicely with mudbucker bass

old or new...

Any idea?

Fender Basses / fender jazz FSR USA on the bay
« on: February 01, 2008, 01:08:35 AM »
I' bumped into this on ebay UK and I
thought it might be interesting (no relation at all with seller). I bought one (in candy apple red awhile ago, the only Fender bass I o wn) a while ago and I think that it is very very good. Tone, aesthetics and quality are top notch and it vas a very limited run in 2000/2001..
