No way is this the original neck.
The guy who bought the same bass twice — first in 1977 and again in 2023

I have no idea Ilan. He says the tuners have been changed to Shallers. 15 fret neck looks funny, Strangely the 5 strings doesn't.

A friend of mine has an original. It looks original... Except for the headstock.

I'm no expert but , I've never seen it done any way other than five in a row on anything that said Fender on it.

That is absolutely a fake neck. Decal's all wrong too.

For a while, some years ago, Fender used a 4+1 headstock on Jazz fivers.

Its ugly, even for a fender!  ;D And looks fake, too. Its body is like that painting by Dali with the liquid clocks. FUGLY.
Music was better when ugly people were allowed to make it.

Body is a legit old V.  Pickguard is home-brew.  Neck is from God knows what, but not from Fender.  For around five bones Australian, this is a good deal if you have a real neck.
Model One and Schallers?  Ish.

And what are the chances that anyone has a genuine Fender V neck just hanging around? Even if someone does, it's only a good deal if you like a stubby necked bass with a body that looks like a Mustang that's been stretched on a rack.

Exactly.  Kind of.  If I had a Bass V neck I would be jumping for joy.  Someone probably does.  Heck - real old Bass V decals were popping up a few years back.  But I wouldn't want that thing for what it is now.  Maybe for what it started out as, but truth be told I never bothered when old clean ones were routinely far under $1k.
