Haim?
« on: January 13, 2014, 04:40:29 PM »
Does this have something or have I fallen prey to the next hype?

I had heard about them, but never heard any of their music. Of course there is an overt Jack White/White Stripes influence and yes, I've heard more precisely played versions of Oh Well, but also more boring ones. This has attitude ... and their own stuff sounds interesting too ...

Now chide me!

I like 'em
They can't sing but they can dance just as good as they want. . .

I'm just not into it.  That bassists has some epic screw face though.

Probably the best player of them all though.

I disagree, and I hate to say this about a mostly femme band (because that really  has nothing to do with it, but comes off that way) the drummer is shit hot (the bassist is def not far behind, just don't see her pushing the envelope, like the drummer is a bit).

I get what Nofi is sayin, and I kinda thought that too on the first number - sort of a Wolfmotherish thing going on, but later they branched out to incorporate not only the elements of classic rock I don't find appealing, but also those of  synthpop, hair metal and funk fusion.  WM (for example) is derivative in a very straight up boring way (I find; took a few listens to realise that - the production/tone is very good and I have a weakness for a good riffage), I disagree that Haim is derivative (anymore so than anything else is - there is little that is new under the sun, especially these days), more so just a hodge-podge of all the not-best bits of every genre.

Everything's derivative to some degree. I just don't think they're any good.

The only thing I can add to this is that those faces on the bassist made me want to punch her parents.

Pee Break Band
Bands like this are a must at festivals like Reading...the lines for the "restrooms" are so long that you get to miss their entire set guarding your spot on line.

I think the drummer is quite good.

Pah, it made me order their CD! I think they're kind of cute and the syncopated vocals on some of their own stuff are something different. Bit Vampire Weekend in places.
