I never understood how the words were supposed to be a mystery for so long. Sure, at first, almost no one outside the west coast had heard the original, but it was fairly well known within 2 or 3 years. At least it was in my neck of the woods.

When Richard Berry died in the late 90s, a local music columnist gave him a fitting four word obit:"he gotta go now."
