Fender Basses / Custom Shop Geddy Lee J... 35" scale EDIT: 34"
« on: November 18, 2013, 12:34:03 PM »
Not a typo, apparently (the 889 mm measure also equals 35").

http://www.notreble.com/buzz/2013/09/01/fender-custom-shop-unveils-new-limited-geddy-lee-1972-jazz-bass/

That's an interesting mod. EDIT: Fender's website says 34". So 35" was a typo. Maybe the "35 years of touring" part threw them off

The Bass Zone / McCartney's new song
« on: August 30, 2013, 11:00:37 AM »

He's still into the Beach Boys... some typical McCartney phrases but starting at about 2:30 it sounds like something off the Smiley Smile album.

So RIC posted this photo on their Facebook page and added that "the color is not on it yet." And the guessing game begins.

Rickenbacker Basses / No rest for modded 4004's

That stealth JG Laredo converted to 5-string is on eBay again. Not the first time. It looks great but seems like no one wants to keep it. Reminds me of another JG Laredo modded with Darkstar pickups, that also looked amazing but changed hands every few months. Why is it?

"... a fantastic and very rare and original Hofner Violin Bass. This bass is in good averall condictions for the age ..."

Fantastic indeed. Good action, too. Surely no need for a neck reset. Or frets.

Rickenbacker Basses / A Wishbass-built Ric copy. Two, actually

The horror. From TB.

As usual with Steve, no truss rod.

As crude and unrefined as it is, it still looks like Wishnevsky's best work  ;)

The Bass Zone / eBay seller canceled my winning bid - advice please
« on: May 20, 2013, 07:49:57 AM »
Yesterday I have won this 1965 Höfner Senator bass. My max bid was AU$710 and I won for AU$670 (US$652). It's in Australia and the seller stated that he will ship only to Australia, so I pre-arranged that a friend in Melbourne will receive it for me. I have never asked the seller to send the bass outside of Australia.

Then I get this message: "I can't send to Israel. Australia only sorry. - nomyth1964"

To which I replied: "No problem, I meant for the bass to be sent to a friend of mine in Melbourne, I will send the address later today, as well as the payment." And a couple hours later: "Hi Michael, I was aware that you do not ship outside of Australia, and want the bass to be shipped to Highett, VIC. Please send me an invoice including shipping. Thanks, Ilan"

His answer: "Hi, you didn't win sorry. Michael"

I am the winning bidder. I did not do anything wrong. The seller specified "Shipping to: Australia", and I want the bass shipped to Melbourne. There was no reason to cancel my winning. What do you think I should do now?

The Outpost Cafe / Well that was traumatic
« on: May 13, 2013, 01:04:39 PM »
I went to rehearsal last night. First rehearsal with a big band playing mostly swing-era tunes. I saw this as an opportunity that does not come very often. Playing upright in a big band playing Benny Goodman tunes and such, that was a dream for me.

But it all went so wrong. These guys all sight-read like crazy. My sight reading is crappy. I played maybe 5% of the written notes. It was war for me. And key changes all the time... wait... 6 flats is what? Gb? No time to think! And all the others just play through it effortlessly. I was so frustrated.

When it ended I talked with the bandleader. I asked him to scan and email me the sheet music a couple of days in advance, so that I can go through it at my pace.

I don't want to give up. I have to get better fast with my reading.

The Outpost Cafe / May 31 - Int'l No-Drummer-Jokes Day
« on: April 07, 2013, 05:03:35 AM »
How about announcing May 31 (John Bonham's b-day) as International No-Drummer-Jokes Day? This kind of initiative should come, I think, from bass players.

Rickenbacker Basses / Rutherfaker

The TRC's say Rickenbacker... how long before the Rickenwaffen have this one removed?

I like the pickguard shapes better than real 4080.
