Great looking bass. That list of early Wal owners was very interesting. Some non-bass players like Mike Giles and Sandy Pearlman were in it too.

I like the look of that color. Not too sure about the PG, but it is what it is!

Re John Gustafson... same leather pickguard... someone asked the question about whether this was a fretless and that list looks like he did get one and this looks exactly the same...

Re JAE... doesn't sound like he used the instrument much, even to a degree of didn't like her... obviously that list shows JAE's name, but the original name/s was scrawled out, not once, but THREE times...

Pristine and sadly unused... the bass of doom... :o

When I saw Bow Wow Wow back in January '83 at Club Foot Leigh Gorman was playing a Wal JG bass.  Had the same color and leather pickguard.  His was fretted and sounded wonderful.  He was playing through a massive Mesa Boogie bass stack (2 of them!) while the late (RIP) Ashman was playing his huge Gretsch White Falcon through 2 Marshall stacks.  Needless to say it was very loud, and good!  Being a 21 year old I was in lust with Annabella.

That ad is a piece of history! I like the 'Theo de Jong - Kayak (Holland)'-part:)

Wals have a sound utterly of their own. Not sure it's very rockish, but it stands out. Those electronics are really different from anything on the market then or now.

I agree. The first time I heard "The Big Money" by Rush, I had a pretty good hunch it was a Wal. I need to play one some day.

True. The one I once played for about a month wasn't very loud either. Not your typical boost or cut preamp. Not really my kind of bass although I can understand why they appeal to some.

I was mistaken about Leigh.  Looks like just a regular Pro II e.  This was from the same tour I saw them on!

(The prosecution, Herr David Westheimer, walked forward... a smile upon his face...)

I haf researched zhis footage und IIRC zhat it is from ze Rainbow Theatre, in North London...

(The smile broadening...)

... und I hate to say zhis Herr Hornung, he used a black Fender Precision zhat night - check shortly after ze intro off your evidence, und again at 2.58-3.01, zhen at 3.37-3.41, und finally at 4.09-4.15... Zhere are other shots, but not worthy to be used as clear evidence - I am sorry Herr Hornung...

(smiling at his old adversary)

... but I must ask the learned Judge to find the accused guilty as charged...

(Uwe Hornung looked distraut, picking up his briefs to pack them away in his case, when suddenly, the court doors were flung open and in ran one of his underlings, totally out of breath, into the court to the disblief of the officials, and shouted...)

WAIT...!

(Looking at at Hornung, the relief showing on his bosses face...)

I did look for some footage, boss, but failed to find any... But I did find zis; he did use his Wal at ze Marquee Club, in London... Ze name of ze aforementioned und venerated venue can be seen behind Herr Gustafson - his honour is upheld...

(The Judge looked at the prosecutor with scorn upon his face)

The evidence is irrefutable, und ve haf a witness that can assure you that he certainly played with exceptional dexterity...

(Westheimer was crushed)

Case dismissed; the accused may proceed with damages claims against the State... ;)
