Watched it last night.

For a better understanding on the philosophical ethos of your average Antipodean...

I'd watch it but I can pretty much recite it from memory.

"Bruce here teaches logical positivism and is also in charge of the sheep dip."

One of the most accurate portrayals of our culture ever re-created.

Actuallt that skit smells a lot like someone had been watching Bazza Makenzie.

It's the "Hollywood Bowl" trip I wanted here ("Wot's the rule...?" "NOOOOO POOFTAHS...!!!" - re the "fag" reference...  ;D)

They obviously had never visited Sydney at the right time of year before that skit was written ;)

Actually that skit smells a lot like someone had been watching Bazza Makenzie

That clip says 1972, the Bruces sketch was from 1970.

Ah, but, that's just the film. The Barry McKenzie character came from a cartoon strip by Barry Humphries and Nick Garland which appeared in Private Eye in London from 1968. I still say I'm going to point Percy at the porcelain, or shake hands with the wife's best friend. Hardly anyone knows what I'm talking about.

I've never heard those two but I do know you're talking about draining the main vein.

Bruce Campbell rocks.  He has a healthy sense of humor about his B- movie star status.

On the money there Phil.

Dont know about our American cousins but most British and Australians will be more familiar with Barry Humphries in his Dame Edna Everidge guise.

Yes, Dame Edna has been well known here for years. I've never thought the character was funny.

I didnt think the Dame Edna character would work anywhere else but UK and OZ. mostly due to the subtlety of the culture-centric humour.

I can't say, since I really can't stand to listen. I do know that he's taken Dame Edna to Broadway more than once and is a popular guest on talk shows (in character) when he's here. So he does connect with his audience. Maybe he tailors his act to to the country.

I always liked ze Däme and found her utterly credible. Lots of philosophical truths in what she says and a master of carefully calibrated venom.
