Bill's Shop: Projects, Mods & Repairs / Re: Humbucking Squier P
« on: August 05, 2010, 02:07:36 PM »

The front of the pickguard covered in tape. This way I could panit just the back.

Black.

I used the baby-Dremel to make all these scratches in the black paint (and the plexiglass). All scratches are quite thick and more or less vertically.

Then sprayed the thing blue.

More scratches, this time thin and horizontally.

I just finished my new Squier P. Peter sold me the body and the pickup, I already had two necks and some other parts.

New pickguard made from plexiglass.

The routing for the pickup had to be enlarged very carefully...

I used the blue wires to see if I put the pickup in the right place.

The pickup is mounted on the body instead of on the pickguard. This way you don't see the four screws holding it in place.

The Bass Zone / Re: Acoustic Basses

This is my Eko acoustic bass. It is almost 30 years old and still looks great, just a few dings and scratches. It was dirt cheap and came with the case, but I don't know if it's original. It's the loudest acoustic bass I've ever heard, and it's still not really loud... (and there's no electrics in it).

The Outpost Cafe / Re: Anyone into home recording?
« on: January 05, 2010, 03:23:36 PM »
I use ProTools LE all the time, with a Digidesign M-Box. With my (mostly) acoustic song-trio we've already  recorded two and a half album in my home-studio. The 'studio' is just the room where my computer is, no other facilities. The biggest problem is the sound level, because I have neighbours... We never use midi, it's all done with mics. We made some recordings we're proud of, and a lot of recordings we're ... well... But because they're all done with the same (pro-)tools it has to be our lack of skills that makes them not too good.

I'm sorry Uwe, but the way Chris rides a bike... He needs a parachute...

As Clark Kent is to Superman, Chris P. Dekker is to Doug Fyghter.

Since we all have a cellphone, there are hardly any phonebooths left in Holland. Therefore we only know Chris as Chris, because there's no place for him to change into Doug anymore.

The homemade bass is fun, it's been compared to Stingrays, Grabbers, Rippers and even Ric3000's. It's basically just the lower half of a Precisionbody and the same shape mirrored for the upper half.

A Jazzbass is a J, so I thought this would be sweet. The matching nut is a mistake. I accidentally put primer on the nut, so I painted it pink as well. Pink basses are always male by the way, ( :gay: but male). I didn't know that, but a girl on the Dutch forum told me (she has a pinkburst Mustang).

Do you know Doug?

I don't think I do?

Thanx!

Chris already played some of my basses, including the Rickenbackers. He has some weird theory about not wanting to have one because he really likes them.

My name is Sven and I'm new here. Chris, Rob, Saf and Peter know me from the Dutch bassforum. I've been playing bass since '92 and have been in bands since '96. My first bass was a Fenix P copy that I still have. I've strung it with flats now and it's mainly used for recording. Nowadays I have nice collection of basses and guitars:
-Rickenbacker '94 4003 Fireglo
-Rickenbacker '05 4003 BlueBoy (Chris drooled when he played it)
-Squier '83 JV Precision
-Squier Telebass refinished in Vintage Guacamole
-Epiphone Rivoli
-MightyMite Precision with Rio Grande pu
-Richwood fretless bass
-'70s Japanese Jazz copy
-Eko acoustic bass guitar
-Mayhill acoustic bass guitar
-my homemade bass

And some guitars including an Epi LesPaul, 335Dot, a cool strat, some acoustics and two guitars I made.

Amps are a Ampeg V-4, SVT350H, SVT410, SVT15, Hughes&Kettner 2.10 cab, an old Dano bass amp with a cab I made myself and a Marshall JTM30 for guitar.

My homemade bass. It has a Peavey neck and two Bartolini pu's. It weighs just a little less then my Ampeg V-4.

My frankensteined Strat.

My homemade guitar.

My Jazz, isn't it sweet?

Squier Telebass in Vintage Guacamole. The color is a little different than on this pic, cause I'm very good at making bad photos.

Me!

And there's enough parts left to build another bass...

Does that bass belong to Derek Smalls? I do like the switches.

Lots of vans can do 90mph. Mercedes, Volkswagen, Ford and Renault vans passed me while I was doing about 105mph in my car.

My Epi Rivoli had the same output problem, especially on the E string. About a year ago I partially solved it by sticking a couple of small magnets in the pickup and raising it as far as I could:

This made things a little better, but not enough. I told Peter about this magnet trick and he's tried it too. Yesterday I saw Peter's pics on the Dutch bassforum so I tried his mod as well:

Since I didn't have allen keys that fitted I had to improvise, I think I've nailed it. Now the output is even across all four strings. Me happy :)

BTW: First post here.
