Posted for historical truthfulness and scientific accuracy only, also for the benefit of our more rural American readers and, errrm, viewers from which this was largely and unjustly so long withheld:

But my favorite Roxy cover is actually the Flesh & Blood one, must be my Germanic genes as Bryan Ferry once described it lucid- and learnedly as "Very Leni Riefenstahl, isn't it?":

All mid-western stadium rock lovers come forth now:

Guilty as charged... and DAMN PROUD OF IT... ;D

Those latter pics you posted are very art-deco in style - presumed to be from that era, not a snapper I know... worth persuing...?

They're from the 1936 Olympics in Berlin. Leni was Hitler's favorite actress turned director and developed her own visual language which has esthetic quality no doubt but will forever be tainted by the time it was created in and the regime it was created under.

As I recall, the cover of Country Life was a couple of female fans that Bryan Ferry shot on impulse.  And you know that the album was a commercial success because the record label changed the cover after a few months.  I got the original on vinyl.

One of the dames on the Country Life album is a sister of a member of Krautrockers Can - a group Eno und Ferry looked up to. The other is her likewise German girlfriend. According to legend, the pics did come about at the spur of a moment, the first intention having beeb to just shoot some foilage and the girls hanging around the photographer (not Bryan Ferry or another band member though). I have doubts as to the truth content of that, both girls don't look like they just jumped out of their jeans after spending a day watching vegetation photographed to get in the (almost) nude for a little snapshot!
