Does anybody here KNOW if the vintage 1960's Epiphone Embassy and Newport basses headstock's are the exact same size??? Thanks
-
The batwing version? I'm going to guess yes based on pics I've seen of both but that's purely speculative on my part.
-
Yes the Batwing...(which most people don't know it's NOT a batwing but the letter "E") but I need someone to confirm. can someone measure the headstocks starting from the nuts to the tip of the headstock??
-
I believe Uwe will be able to help you but he's very busy with work right now.
-
That would be cool! My buddy Tony Carl has an Embassy with a repaired headstock...I saw a Newport neck for sale...thought that he could possibly use it for a NICE restoration scarf joint!
-
Unfortunately nope! Embassy is 11" (nut to end), Newport only 10 1/2" (nut to end) because the cheesy Newport tuners take up less room on the back ...
-
What exactly is so cheesy about them? :o

Some of the Newports had the cheaper tuners Gibson used on the Kalamazoos and occasionally on regular Gibsons.
-
Those look like they have a wider footprint than the ones in my pic.
-
I think you're right.

That's the general issue with thought, not always to correct conclusions it doth lead!
The cheesy tuners are only 1 3/4" wide (the ones in Rob's pic almost 2"), they seem larger because the (my?) Newport headstock is a perfect miniature of the Embassy headstock (so they seem to take up more space). The Newport headstock is not only shorter but also less wide than the Embassy's (2 3/4" at the jagged protrusion in the middle of the "E"/batwing as opposed to 3" with the Embassy).
What I can't rule out though is that the batwing headstock of the Newport came in two sizes (large and small), depending on what tuners they used.
Si(gh)ze matters! :-\
