You can't go wrong with a pair of SGs and a Jazz driving a 360!

I love the military snap and tightness of the drums in this one.

The Outpost Cafe / Anyone in Detroit need a singer?
« on: January 07, 2012, 05:04:07 PM »
For those of you who remember my indie pop band, the singer Rena is now living in Detroit, and she's interested in getting into a band again.  Let me know if you know anyone, and I'll put them in touch with her.

The Bass Zone / Reunion gigs - without the original members
« on: December 08, 2011, 01:19:17 PM »
We see this kind of stuff all the time in the world of "big" bands.  I even know of an agent in Cincinnati that puts out road versions of once popular bands, containing only a single member that was actually in one of those bands "at some time" when they were popular.

I just recently found that one of my popular bands from the old Chicago days has agreed to play a reunion gig for a now defunct bar (Tom, if you're here, this is a Haymakers reunion).  The kick, NOBODY from the band has actually been contacted about this.  The drummer and I had no idea that this was happening, so it looks like one member (we still don't know who it is) has volunteered to build a band from up his sleeve.

The drummer and I are debating showing up to stand at the front of the stage and see what happens.

The Outpost Cafe / Need some LBO support
« on: December 03, 2011, 09:41:32 AM »
Need to rally some support for my old singer's daughter. Go to www.materialgirlcollection.com and vote for Alison Byrd.

I guess she was hanging with Kelly Osborne at the auditions.

I just caught this from Facebook.  Looks like he's using a rig that everyone here would approve of.

Bill's Shop: Projects, Mods & Repairs / Fine kettle of fish
« on: May 15, 2011, 05:05:34 PM »
I played last night, and it was pretty hot and humid in the club. I decided to clean my basses today, and wipe down the strings with rubbing alcohol. I opened the bag with the Embassy, and wondered why I suddenly had a hole in the fretboard.  The inlay for the 3rd fret marker has vanished, leaving the hole and screw exposed.  Damn!  Now what?  Looking for any helpful hints.

While I'm at it, what is everyone recommending to clean and oil the body and neck?  I've got nothing where I'm staying, so looking to purchase some new supplies.

Thanks!

Other Bass Brands / Need a bass ID'd
« on: March 15, 2011, 08:23:13 PM »
I came across this.  Not only do I not quite recognize the brand of the double-neck, but the bass work is really pretty cool.

Anyone?

Another video - maybe Guild?

Oh, and the bass player is Tom Dawes.

The Bass Zone / Dead Band Walking
« on: March 10, 2011, 07:27:55 AM »
Well, it took me long enough, but after 30+ years of playing, it looks like I'll finally be on a publicly released album.  My old indie band, kelp, is releasing Dead Band Walking to iTunes on Mar. 15 - the ides of March.  Fitting date.  We also expect the album to be on Amazon before too long.

We have a Facebook page, with some samples on the Band Page tab.

Bill's Shop: Projects, Mods & Repairs / Well, I do'd it...
« on: January 24, 2011, 12:13:48 PM »
Some of you may recall that I had plans to start a small powder coating shop a year ago or so.  Well, I ended up putting it off for a while.  I didn't actually have enough garage left to do any sort of spraying, plus my HOA would probably frown upon that.

However, I just bought a lower end powder coating system.  I can pick up an electric oven for curing easily enough (my drummer just GAVE one away to someone last week), so all I need is a place to set up and work on the process.  My plan is to figure out the process, do some prototyping for my own benefit, and see how things look.  If I can get the process down, and find a good market, my plan is to move into a rental space (cheap) and buy something a little more commercial, like a Caswell system.

Gibson Basses / Back in my arms again...
« on: September 11, 2010, 04:11:24 PM »
Mark and I did the deal this morning.  He sold it back to me for pretty much the same reasons I sold it to him.  It needs to be played and heard, and needs a good home.  Bad phone pic.  I'll try to get better later.

I could be in a quandry, though.  I got the BaCHBird because I no longer had the Embassy.  Now that I have it back, I may not need the BaCH.  Think anyone here would be interested in one of the original 50, with a '60s Gibson humbucker in it?   ;D

Bill's Shop: Projects, Mods & Repairs / Need some specs for body routing
« on: August 12, 2010, 01:52:04 PM »
Well, as much as I've been slammed with bills lately, I'm thinking it's time to start with my next project.  I found a body I like:

http://cgi.ebay.com/GLUFF-CUSTOM-1-PC-MAHOGANY-MAPLE-BASS-GUITAR-BODY-/300449154976?pt=Guitar_Accessories

The question I have is - what specs would I give for dropping a Dark Star up for the neck pickup, and a Ric pickup for the bridge?
