Super nice. Love the inlays. Is buffalo horn the new thing now? Just last night I saw a friend post about using that material on a Chris Squire 8 string re-creation he's building.
-
Thank you Tom.
Don't know about the buffalo horn. I was just looking for non-plastic black nut material. And my supplier happened to have bufallo horn.
-
Another beaut, bud!
-
Wow, that's beautiful bass!
-
That body style is crying out for a version in TV yellow or TV white/ Limed Mahogany. I hope you don't because I'd be in tormenting amount of temptation. Any classic Gibson custom color finish would be cool too.

Beautiful work, Rob.

I made a quick video this afternoon.
I used Photobooth on my iMac. In the first attempt the sound quality wasn't that good. Somehow I couldn't control the input level. So it kept distorting a bit in the lower frequencies. Here's the second attempt with the input level set much lower.

Needs a mudbucker :vader:

I like it. The mahogany must be why it sounds mellower than the same pickup in an ash body/maple neck Fender. Either that or it's the dark finish. :)
-
Looks and sounds GREAT, Rob!
-
Thank you guys.
@ Dave: yes, it does sound rather black doesn't it?
-
Sure is a beauty Rob!

Thanx again guys! :toast:
-
I really love what you are doing.
Keep up the good work!

I've been getting some really great reactions on this bass! Two ace players from The Netherlands tested the Brooks EB-PL Noir and wrote some cool quotes about it.
"Black is beautiful, but it sounds great too! 100% balanced sound in every position. With a nice growl to it, that makes it cut through. This bass is a love baby from Rickenbacker and Fender, trapped in a vintage Gibson body. A piece of art."
Ivo Severijns (ex- Herman Brood & his Wild Romance, ex -Kane, Waylon)
"I absolutely love it when old school meets new school! This bass has the looks and feel of a classic Gibson with the sound of a Telecaster bass on acid. It's simple yet very diverse. From a warm vintage sound to a killer modern rock growl... This monster has it all!"
Rob van der Loo (ex-Delain, Epica, MaYaN)

Nice... time to visit China and go for mass-prod... ;)

I'm working on it Kenny!

The new natural one is to die for.
-
Thank you John.
I'll post it when it's really ready.
I hope to get it done by the end of the week.
-
Fantastic work Rob!
-
I did not realize it was trans black. They are both such nice basses.
An 8 string Hammer like one would be cool.

Yesterday an old friend of Floor and me celebrated the release of a book he wrote about being in bands for 40 years.
He had asked me if I would like to play a couple of songs together with him (he's a drummer), my wife Floor and Leif de Leeuw, who's a talented young guitarist.
I hadn't seen a stage in more than three years. Haven't really missed playing in a band to be honest. But yesterday I picked up the bass again to perform.
Of course I took the opportunity to use one of my own builds. For the first time since I've been building them under the name Brooks I performed with a Brooks myself.
Han played the drums in the best Bonham / Kirke tradition. Groovy and rock steady. Floor sang like an angel and Leif played beautifully (that guy is one gifted kid).
And I survived .
I was over the moon to hear the compliments after the short gig. Some guys -who I hold in high esteem- told me the Brooks bass sounded great in the audience.
I'm a happy camper!

That bass of yours is a true beauty!
-
Thank you Staffan!
-
Good for you Rob!
-
That's so cool!
-
You should guest star more often!
-
Good for you for playing with him and featuring your own build. :toast:
-
Good to see you back in the saddle Rob.
-
Right on! Any sound clips? Wish I could commission one of these brooks but priorities have changed with a baby in the home.
-
Glad you got to get out and play, and on your own creation!
-
Great! And Leif sure is a great and talented kid!

The German magazine Gitarre&Bass wrote a nice review about the Brooks EB-PL Noir that I built almost seven years ago.
