I like that some blues-rock, grunge, and this type of stuff can give you that huge adrenaline rush without a chops-fest being involved. Instead, its all done more effectively thru conviction and passion - IMO. I think overall, I've come to appreciate music more holistically, rather than fixate on individual virtuoso talent like I tended to do when I was a yonger player.
Playing in a band like that is what really cured me. Imagine - guitar players and drummers that refused to solo!
I still like solos when they are thoughtful, and I still get into bands of virtuosos who come together to create something good as a whole (Return to Forever, for example), but people sometimes forget that simple can get the job done too!
