Just bought this





1998 Dearmond Starfire. Hasn't arrived yet and I'm not sure how I'll get on with short scale and hollow body, but I've been watching too many Jefferson Airplane clips on Youtube. The seller has also found me a bridge pickup with the gold intact.

Those are great basses.  The Thomastik Jazz Flats that are for 32" scale basses fit perfectly on them and sound so good.

I used to have a similar one, which I sold to ChrisP. Never played it in a band.

I used Bart's old one for more than a year as my main gigging bass. I like the woolly woody sound when my band had two guitar players. After we went on as a three piece I needed some more punch, so I went back to the Bird and Fender Ps.

Last year it was the Starfires 1 year celebration of being stocked under my bed, so with a little pain I sold it. But I still have a Rivoli reissue and the Ricky 4005, so if I need some semisolidsounds...

It's arrived now, though I haven't had a chance to put it through an amp yet. One problem with gigging it will be the body is too wide for any of my cases or gigbags. Does anyone know a solution to that?

What's the extra control? Master volume? Knobs aren't original, but the looked good!

- As longscale player you will het used very quick, cos it's almost as long as a longscale bass. everything is a bit more to the left (see bridge) so it plays more natural for a longscale player then let's say a Musicmaster.

- Case: I tornd one of the small cusions out of my JCS case and it was a perfect fit.

Yes, the extra control is a master volume. Not sure how useful that is, also the knob doesn't match the others. I might look for some more authentic replacements. It's been round the block a bit, there's a repaired neck split, but it seems solid enough.

I've been trying to work out what JCS is - I'm sure it's really obvious and I'm being thick.

Maybe it'll fit in an Epiphone Rivoli case too?

I sold my JCS without case, cos I used it for my Starfire. It had some little soft blocks in it and after removing one it was a perfetc fit. Later on I sold the Starfire with the JCS case.

I've put the cosmetically better bridge pickup on now, so it looks more like it should. The cheapest JCS case I can find new is 89 Euro at Thomann - and they claim they can get one in a few days. I don't suppose the Allen Woody one would fit (it's slightly cheaper and in stock). I guess I'd wait till doomsday for one to show up on eBay.
