Title: Sorry
Post by: Chris P. on October 05, 2009, 12:48:51 PM
Sorry, I'm just proud. Have to post this:D

The La La Lies:

Last weekend we played at a venue in Amsterdam and an A&R manager of Roadrunner Records (Kiss, Parlor Mob, ...) was checking out a band. We played next and he was still around. He liked us better than the band he came for and now he's trying to get us to support USA band Parlor Mob and he wants to talk about a record deal:)

A day before I was contacted by my favourite Dutch venue (Vera) which wants us to play there.

Today we got a phonecall from a Dutch TV show called De Wereld Draait Door. Primetime and I believe the only Dutch tv show at the moment with live music, but eacht artist (one per evening) only plays 60 seconds. It's watched by milllions of Dutch people and people still talk to me about the time I was on (see the 'impact of TV' thread). They maybe want us to play, but we had to answer some questions first. I'll keep ya posted, but I'm excited!!

Geniaal stoer, Chris! Eummm verkeerde forum....

What a great oppurtunities Chris. You deserved it. " De werled draait door" that show is one of the most watch tv shows I believe. And roadrunner record sthat's not just a avarage DIY label. Things are looking greatly positive.

Will you call yourself Doug Stryker once you're famous?!!!

Stikk post here?

Remember us?

What has Loes to say about all this?

It won't be long and the reporters will have d(o)ug up what you did with Frâulein Rommel: "Lalalies Bassist mercilessly di-di-ditched American fiancee at tje advent of szartdom."

I knew Chris P when he wasn't famous yet.

Thanks guys!

Of course nothing is sure yet. We haven't signed anything and you never know if we both agree with the same deal. The same with TV. They called us with some questions, we answered them and know we have to wait... But it's already nice people are this positive! I hope to know more soon!

I'll think about the Doug Stryker name;)

But now the big isse. If TV happens: T-Bird? Ricky 4005? Buzzard? Just a P?

If TV's involved, you have just got to fly Mark over...  ;D

If the BaCHBird get's the slot, questions will be asked, then orders may follow, then prices may hike... (talk to Roman about endorsements... ;))

No news yet. Rob wants me to play the BaCH, the local Fender store wants me to play the P, a friend who's Eastwood-agent suggested an Eastwood, haha! But maybe I fly Mark over indeed and let him take my place:D

There can be absolutely no discussion on what bass Doug will play: the Bicentennial. That bass set him off and one day he will give an interview in his Californian sea view mansion (with his "fiancee" two decades younger than him unobstrusively in the background crooning "Honey, the Van Halens are coming for dinner, he wants to play his demos to you, shall I invite some girlfriends for the pool party?")and lounging back in a spacious designer sofa Chris will say in that mellow Californian accent with only a slight trace of Dutch: "You know, it's innuhresting, but in my formative years in Holland, not only was I skinny as a rake (the fiancee in the background: "You still are to me, hon!"), I also played a Thunderbird, even took it to our first TV gig, you know how the rest is history ... Kimberly (= the much younger fiancee) just auctioned it off for charity last week ... I feel I owe society something in return for how good life has been to me and besides those Warwick endorsements have served me well ... These day people don't even remember how some late English bassist called John Entwistle came up with the Chrizzard bass shape I'm known for, back then they were all called Buzzards ...".

'Who's Kimberley??' asked Loes ;D

We're on tv tomorrow night. It will be on the internet the day after, so I'll post it! This programm has over a million and a half viewers. That's a lot if you imagine we have 16 million people in Holland and we play exactly at the same time as the prime time news bulletin, the eight O'clock news.

No Parlor Mob news yet.

And yes: Today I'll restring the Bird!

We only play one minute and ten seconds, which every band does. Even the biggest Dutch bands who play there. So yesterday we rehearsed 1.10 minutes of Lies time after time

Post by: uwe on October 09, 2009, 01:31:27 AM
I have a hunch that Chris will perform naked, that happens on Dutch TV all the time. In that case I recommend the Ric 4005 because only its body will be large enough to make the program save for minors.
Title: Re: Sorry
Post by: Chris P. on October 09, 2009, 02:43:18 AM
:)

Reminds me of a local band here, called Fill Bloom. This name is a nod to Phil Bloom. The first woman to appear naked on Dutch television in 1967. Of course Holland was very devided and even the government talked about it.

BTW: I take the Thunderbird, hanging below crotch level;)

It was great. And way too short.

Kick ass rock band on prime time national TV. That doesn't happen every day, right?
Well tonight it did.
Never seen Chris move as much as tonight. Chris was waving his Thunderbird like a kamikaze pilot gone beserk.

Nice!  Your singer looked a little nervous at first, but loosened up once you started playing.  It's hard to get things across in a minute and a half with that camera action.  I liked it!  The T-Bird cut through everything pretty well.

And the shirt: It was a nice expensive Ben Sherman, out of my large Ben Sherman collection (see www.myspace.com/chrispdekker and the the Ben Sherman pic album), matching the bass! So no more bad words!!

Like I said this is the only Dutch tv show with live music, so we were already proud of these 70 seconds:) And indeed the other version is a studio-audience-only version. Next step is a meeting with a big record label, next thursday, but you'll never know...

@ Uwe: Thanks, we hear more about sounding like Jet. No problem:) I like that band.

@ Kenny: You can try and check the 70 seconds at www.thelalalies.nl The vid on top. Below is our vid. Yep, I go to a high A on the E-string, which looks quite high on a Bird:) Before I was adjusting my strap as low as possible, but with still a possibility to reach this A, ha ha! Sunday I had a gig and some songs were hard to do with such a long strap, but hey, rock 'n roll! No Mark King positions for me;)

The "Missionary Position" is reasonably easy, but the "Mark King" position takes some slappin' to get right...
Title: Re: Sorry
Post by: Freuds_Cat on October 13, 2009, 05:26:15 PM
Victor has a good go at the MK position. Doesn't quite make it though.   Probably a good thing.

I reckon players who play that high have spent way too much time early on in their playing careers sitting down and playing. I get the impression that Pete Way like a lot of us, was out playing gigs while still learning to play. Just my humble opinion.  :)
Title: Re: Sorry
Post by: uwe on October 14, 2009, 06:27:43 AM
There are limits how low you can go without getting your ankle all awkward for all but the most rudimentary stuff. I don't like the look of "bass under the chin"-players either, but if you look at the more busy great players - JE, JB, Chris Squire, Sir Paul -, none of them has his bass slung down Sid Vicious style low. You can't fool ergonomics. Hell, even Gene Simmon's (not a root note player)has his Axes and Punishers comparatively high.

I agree that lower looks cooler though, but it inhibits my playing.
Title: Re: Sorry
Post by: SKATE RAT on October 14, 2009, 06:34:07 AM
Playing lower may be harder on your left (or fretting hand) but its way more comfortable on your right(or picking/fingering etc)hand. i can play way faster down low.
and wearing your bass low should be refered to as Dee Dee style not Sid Vicious.
Title: Re: Sorry

True. But at least 30 years of death haven't deteriorated Sid's bass skills at all.

I like to record sitting down. So I can do everything much easier. But live I choose for the looks;)

Skate rat says it right: I like my right arm stretched out as much as possible but that's hard for your left hand. So I always have the bass a bit besides me (Think BB King; please no jokes about both our potbellies, Uwe ;D) and sometimes with the neck a bit upwards (Think a bit early Bill Wyman. Jokes about our mutual love for much too young girls are alright).

AAAAAARRRRRRGGGHHHHHH.... HE MENTIONED MY NAME.... HE MENTIONED MY NAME.... I'M DOOMED...

okay, who said that, I distinctly heard someone say, "phew, we might get some normality back in this joint..."

Come on, stand up, show yourself... (arms folded, foot tapping impatiently on the ground...)

Sounds like he was quite a colourful character... we are all diminished by the loss of these wonderful eccentrics... RIP Lou...
