Fenderbird Again...JAEbird II

Flateric's Peter Cook interview is very inspiring so far, really looking forward to the evolution of the Fenderbird in the next part.  This 'bird was probably a next step, hopefully he'll go into more detail about it.


Here was my take on it begun around '83 and finished this year



After Jim's suggestion that a deeper cutaway might be a good thing I pulled out my abandoned 1st prototype and mocked this up going back to the basic JAEbird.  I'm not a fan of the shape of the bottom horn on Peter Cook's or the pickguard which for some reason reminds me of clenched fists.  I'm leaning toward modifying the JAEbird guard.

Hi.

As I have mentioned to Kenny, in another post - all these things were a very long time
ago and as with a lot of things in life - urban myths, hearsay etc, all add to the bigger picture.
There is perhaps an easy explanation for any progression in design - or not!! :)

I will do my best to find out.

Thanks, Eric.  The general stuff is more fascinating to me than the specific.  It would seem Kenny's bass is more historically important since it has a set (or is it through?) neck.  Just glad PC is on the planet!

 Barklessdog (John) Has a beautiful extreme cutaway Fenderbird, The nicest I have seen. I got a pattern from him to build mine.

I gave some thought to doing similar to Barkless Dog's great looking bass but decided to continue my own parallel universe of Fenderbird development.  There's also a German company that makes a similar one, I'd rather not compete with something that's already on the market.  I took a cue from the PC ExplorerBirds with their straight cut on the bottom horn which is also shorter than  the JAEbird horn.

I slid back the pick guard and will mod it some to fit this design better.  Six bolts on the neck and a little contouring of the heel will about do it.

Nice day to get some work done in the yard.
