You mite want to share your feelings about this with us more comprehensively, Dave.

I'd be more worried if they didn't have anuses. Dust mites

take craps (it's what causes allergies with some people),

As dust mites feed on dead skin cells they produce feces, it is the dust mites' microscopic feces or waste, that is the actual allergen. When you breathe dust mite waste, one of the most strongly allergenic materials found in house dust, your immune system kicks into high gear producing antibodies against the normally harmless substances.

so why wouldn't skin mites?

By the way: They have sex on our faces by night too. Every night. Lucky critters.

PS: When EXACTLY did unwholesome subjects of this type become de rigueur here at the LBO (which does not stand for Last Butt Opening in case you wondered)? Mark has led us all astray, burrowing a tunnel of depravation.

Well I found it interesting. But maybe it's the Covid.

You caught Covid, Ilan? Gute Besserung then.

Everyone around here seems to currently get it, it's so much more prevalent than 12 months ago, when the lock-down measures were still in place. Our keyboarder caught it, many colleagues (especially ones with younger or school age children) at work have it, the Harley-Davidson maintenance and repair workshop had to close because of it (all the mechanics had fallen sick), relatives have it, politicians get it and have to cut short foreign visits and quarantine there. (Needless to say everyone I know who caught it has been vaccinated or at least claims (s)he is.)

And quite a lot of people say that even the present variant (which is undeterred by the current German/European heat wave) is no joke and that they have never felt as sick in their life - people staying infectious for two weeks is not seldom. Take me back three years or so and I would have laughed at you that a new virus should keep us busy for such a long period in this day and age. Our keyboarder is only regaining his sense of taste and smell slowly and says that a lot of things smell and taste different to him now than the way he remembered them which he finds totally unsettling.

Neither Edith nor I have yet caught it (at least that we know of), but I always say that it can only be a matter of time, statistics are like that. And it is also noteworthy that we know quite a few families or couples where people living in the closest imaginable everyday proximity to afflicted individuals have not caught it, weird. The one thing you can say for certain about COVID is that it continues to defy expectations and baffle both on a global and individual scale. You know how keyboarders are more the sensitive type.

All that does make you reassess skin and dust mites who seem to get along nicely with us as hosts! We should really start a support group for them. I like parasites that are not out to kill you.

PS: Looking forward to voting again? It's been a while ...   :-\

My submission to the column Dear Uwe:

"Dear Uwe, do skin and dust mites get Covid?"

Lieber Pilgrim,

extremely vielen Dank for sharing your captivating question with us!

The general medical consensus seems to be that if you rub yourself in with bleach regularly, you'll be fine.

Vaccination statistics re skin and dust mites should be viewed with caution. It's Big Pharma at work.

Best

Read the ingredients, it doesn’t contain bleach.

You needn't worry. In response to an infection, our own immune systems produce an antibacterial "cocktail" that includes both hydrogen peroxide and hypochlorus acid, the latter of which is the active ingredient in chlorine bleach. A disinfectant inside the body, if you will.
