Newport Bass - Eastwood Custom Shop

Looks closer to the original than their EB-1 copy.

Kind of like having an EB-0 and not having an EB-0 at the same time.  I once commented that I really liked the look of the batwing headstock on the Newport  Uwe said it may look good but was easily cracked  Maybe the Eastwood won't have that problem, but who knows.

At first they use pics of the original. Here too. So let's wait and see!

True, but their EB-1 project had different specs from the original from the beginning. Different scale length, chambered, maple neck, and blackwood f/b. The Newport specs look like the original so it will probably be pretty close.

I've got some opportunities to get some good deals on several other basses right now.  But I can't stop thinking about this particular Eastwood bass.  I've wanted a Newport for a long time, though.  Preferably an actual Epi one, but this one might do the job.

It doesn't look quite right. Still, I suppose it will sell enough to cover Eastwood's costs.

What doesn't look quite right to you? Too new maybe?

The outline isn't the same.

Of course the Newport that I owned, had the extra pickup plus switch installed.
But you can see the headstock of the Eastwood has a different shape. And the outline of the body looks slightly different too. The bottom is more square. And the lower horn looks a little bit bulkier.

It also looks like a different radius on the sides.  That might be a player improvement but when you advertise reissue it should be.

It's the headstock difference which bothers me the most.  I still applaud Eastwood for trying to bring back the Newport.

I love the overall concept of what they're doing.  So far the ones I might have been interested in the most have turned out to be too much of an approximation, especially the EB-1.

I think Eastwood's prices are high for what you get. They also seem to farm out the work to different factories, I've seen some good workmanship and some really rough examples.
