The Outpost Cafe / Adrian VandenBerg gets ready for a comeback
« on: May 19, 2011, 05:21:27 AM »
Adrian Vandenberg is working on a comeback album. He's been more active as a painting artist ever since he quit Whitesnake.
Partly due to an injury he stopped playing guitar for a while.
But now he's preparing to return into the music scene.

This week a first song was released for a Dutch soccer team called FC Twente from his hometown Enschede.
It's a real football /soccer song with some obvious nods to another (adopted) soccer song Queen's We are The Champions.
The title A Number One is a reference to the A1 highway that leads into Enschede from the west. (Enschede is in the east of Holland near the German border)

The song is sung by Jan Hoving who was lead singer in the band Stonefly (I played bass in that band).
Jan and Adrian are working on an entire album. I spoke to Jan a while back and he's pretty excited about the new material.

Gibson Basses / Red Ripper AC/DC video
« on: May 05, 2011, 03:31:52 PM »
Well almost entirely red.
Looks like a sunburst, but most of the burst is obscured by the huge pickguard.

Must have been a custom color? I thought they only produced tobacco burst Rippers?

Seeing this video made my day. What a fun band!
You gotta love Bon with the bagpipes and the frantic grin on his face  ;D

The Outpost Cafe / What's wrong with Jake E Lee?
« on: May 04, 2011, 08:46:43 AM »
Does anybody know what happened to Jake E Lee?
His work with Ozzy was excellent. And all three Badlands albums are still among my all time favorites.
Amazing guitarist with a very recognizable style.

But he's been off radar for over a decade.
I bought his Retraced album, which was just a disappointing bunch of cover songs.
I had hoped this would be sort of a teaser for the audience to announce his return. But after that nothing happened.

He seems to be in a three piece band doing pubs gigs in Vegas.
WHY?

Their drummer is a horrible singer. The guitar solo is a train wreck.
Drunk ass in the audience makes it even worse.

What is the story?
Alcohol? Drugs? Some other illness?

Other Bass Brands / Bass Collection Blues bass (EB3)
« on: April 19, 2011, 05:17:31 AM »
Bass Centre claims it's a medium scale bass. But to me it looks like a normal short scale EB3.
No information what kind of wood it is, and wether it's bolt on or set neck.
Not exactly dirt cheap. But still affordable at 399 BPS

Here's a remarkable double neck acoustic guitar by the French brand Lag, that I spotted on the Messe.

Bass Amps & Effects / Orange Terror Bass 5000

Seen at Frankfurter Musik Messe

A 5000 watt Class D Terror Bass.
Adrian Emsley told me it was only a showpiece and there were no concrete plans to actually take these into production.

The Outpost Cafe / New Superfloor recordings
« on: April 05, 2011, 05:44:19 AM »
A while ago we recorded a gig in our local pub with a 24 track hard disk recorder. Just for ourselves to do some pre-production for the new album; See if everything is in place. Maybe decide to change some things in the songs. Try some different mixes. You get the idea.
Anyway, here's a few of the new songs that we have. Just the live recordings as we played them. A rough and honest mix. No overdubs.

Guitars Etc. / Custom Lefty Spalted Top Explorer by BaCH
« on: February 08, 2011, 06:58:28 AM »
A while ago I had BaCH make a custom color Lefty Firebird.

A guy on a Dutch guitarforum saw this guitar and asked me if he could order
a custom made
Lefthanded Explorer
mahogany body and neck
with Spalted maple top
creme bindings
fretboard without position makers

It took BaCH about a six months.

But today it finally arrived at the office
I'm usually no too keen on exotic tops, but this one is very nice in real life

ESP Thunderbird on Ishibashi

What were they thinking when they decided to put the controls on the lower horn?
An attempt to cure the neck dive maybe? Ergonomics??
And Jazz pickups for Christ's sake!

Tonefuchs Extreme Sport Bass. Weird hybrid.
With Lollar pickups.
That neck pickup looks a lot like a Charlie Christian pickup doesn't it?

It ain't exactly cheap...
