The Outpost Cafe / Classic Quo are back
« on: June 15, 2012, 12:21:34 AM »
Never cared for the "new" Quo line-up. Too much of a cabaret for me.

But now they've announced a reunion tour and album.
With Lancaster and Coghlan.

Gibson Basses / The Heritage
« on: June 13, 2012, 03:07:20 AM »
On a Dutch bas forum a came across a few pics form The Heritage basses. I had no idea The Heritage also built bass guitars. So far I only knew of their Les Paul guitars.

Any of you guys got any experience with The Heritage basses?

The look and feel of the HB-105 in the picture below is intriguing; that fifties P bass look and feel combined with the black (lo-z like?) pickup

And here's a few other models:

The Outpost Cafe / Recordings from ten years ago
« on: May 27, 2012, 01:52:40 PM »
Ten years ago we had the chance to record a few songs in a studio. "We" were the then already disbanded Bittermoon, my girl (super)Floor and our Canadian friend Rob Lamothe (ex-Riverdogs). We called ourselves the Dutch Lamothe Band and we had already done a few small tours together. We wanted to record a demo to get more and better gigs, so we booked a studio. The budget was supertight and so was our schedule. We had the FarmSound studio in Heelsum (NL) from 14.00 till 17.30 to build up, soundcheck and record.

Everything went according to plan and the recordings went really well. Everybody was enthousiastic. Lamothe would get the multi-tracks after they were transferred from analog tape to digital. He was going to do the mix at home in ProTools. But when the recordings were finally transferred and sent over, Rob had decided to take a break from performing live. So the need for a demo was no longer there. And the recordings simply never got mixed down.

When I bought a new iMac three years later, I started to explore the possibilities of Garageband and I decided to try my luck with mixing the recordings myself. And it did work out pretty well (if I may say so  8)). But I couldn't publish any of these mixes since Rob Lamothe owns the rights of the songs. So the mixes stayed at my computer all these years...

But last week we saw each other for the first time in I think 5 years. We played together and it was great fun. Rob is sharing his music with anyone who wants to hear it. Has CD-Rs with his music for grabs at the front of the stage.
So I figured now is the time to put the old recordings out in the open. They're too nice to never get heard!

Enjoy!

The Outpost Cafe / New Van Halen album

What I've heard so far on YouTube kicks serious ass!
I didn't see that coming, after the somewhat disappointing first single Tattoo (that was only a remake of an old reject song)

And Wolfgang appears to be a much better bass player than Michael Anthony!
