That blows.  I'll keep my eyes open you never know where this stuff will surface. I always take my basses in to the hotel room no matter what, they can have my amps if they feel like carrying them.

One ????????? Oh man  well I can't do just one. John (barklessdog) funny you mention two of my basses you red NR Thunderbird II comes to mind first. Second Curt's or John's Fenderbird, Uwe's Gibson Explorer with the gold hardware, Marks Purple Thunderbird, I just love purple. I gotta stop I'm just teasing myself now.

Ok I went back for the black one, they went to get the case and guess what ? It turned out to be a unopened  box  with another Jet glow inside !  I checked both basses out and they felt almost identical but the one from the unopened box had nicer inlays so being virgin and having nicer inlays I took that one. Had to put it on layaway  >:( but I should have it in my hands soon ! God I love basses.

As I understand it the thicker neck profile is a thing of the past but I don't know for sure, maybe JH will chime in ?

Great a bunch of English majors. Back to basses, the neck is a slim profile compared to earlier the 4003 but I don't think they are quite as thin as some 70's 4001 , having said that I like the profile a lot.

John Birch is close ! it is a Jaydee buit by John Diggens who worked at JB in the 70's it is a exact replica of Jim Lea's (of Slade) one of John Birch that was made in '76 to replace his much modded EB3 that was stolen from the John Birch shop. JD used Jim Lea's bass as a pattern and even got Jimmy to sign it for me ! I was supposed to go over to England and pick up the bass and meet Jim and JD but I was unable to do so. It was a big thrill for me to have Jim so involved in the project. A lot of really great people helped make this happen My friend Stu over in the UK pointed me in the right direction and even provided a vintage JB bridge for the project. JD came up with a pair of vintage Birch pickups. It is a wondeful piece of work and one of my favorite basses, bloody loud and ballsy with it's own on board distortion.

I have heard this version before and I think this might have been where George Martin found his drumming out of time, the last straw for the boys to sack him.
