About fret leveling. I have bought new basses over 1k and they have needed a proper fret dressing.

I have had a number of SX basses and I am very impressed with them, way better than a Squier. I have a SX 75J that is my shop bass. It sits in a stand in my wood shop I don't have to worry about it getting knocked over or dusty. They are fine right out odf the box and a great platform for mods.

Most Epi's I have owned or played need a good fret dressing. My JC needed one and both Epi EB3s and my Tbird needed one. part of the charm of the price.

Hell I have two hands I'd grab my Jim Lea bass to

For sure!  The only bass I wish I still had, and just for the memories it evokes, is my 62 (or 63, can't remember now!)  jazz bass.  Oh to be 16 again!  I sold it in 75 when I got married.  How stupid was that!

Tsk tsk Bill, sold it when you got married a sad precedent has been set, must have taken years to undo.  I Love 'em all but I'd grab my '69 NR Thunderbird if the house was burning. My main bass since '78

I'm mostly a pick player and palm mute quite a bit and I found those channels over the mute made it hard to play............................ so I removed them.  ;D

I saw The Edgar Winter Group in '73 and Derringer had a custom Explorer shaped guitar with Dimarzio pups, binding and a figured top. I also remember reading about them in Guitar player about the same time.

I guess Entwistle brought the shape back to life for bassists, then the metal scene hijacked it.

The Bass Zone / Gig report last Sun
« on: August 07, 2008, 09:50:42 AM »
We played at Nola's BBQ on their very nice outdoor stage last Sun 5-9, Great sound system and a good crowd for the weather we had, cloudy and in the 70's up by the lake.  My almost 11 year old daughter took these shots, I was pretty impressed ! This was during our "Hammer Of The Gods" Zep tribute set, note the J bass, I have never seen pictures of me playing a J...................... looks weird !

Dimension wise my Ibanez Destroyer is real close. Note the Gibson mudbucker and Bart tbird pup. I'm thinking of going back to a white guard.
