Very nice! JAE would be proud.

I was going to say the same thing!

Only thing I don't get is the trim ring on the neck pup.

jumbodbassman

all of JAE's fenderbirds had them also.  I actually like the look better anyway.  did it to by bachbird when i put in the lull.

Thanks, that's high praise, guys!

The guard pup ring can be seen pretty clearly on one of JAE's 'Birds in a SUNN, 'Sound of the 70s' ad that unfortunately I no longer have.  The nickel of the original rings reflects the black of the guard.  If you check pix 1 and 3 at the beginning of this thread you can clearly see the six screws and just make out the ring...I'll be happy to do a ring delete at N/C, each guard is screwed to the body it's going on and then routed to fit the pup route exactly.

I believe Peter Cook would be honoured...

This one, Carlo...?

Yep, that's the ad.  Makes me long for the days I played Coliseum Bass, Lead and Slave heads with 3 SVT cabs.  That's an 880 on the bottom right.

That Fiesta Red 'Bird has RI pups but IIRC by the time of the RIs JAE had moved on to Alembics.  It's puzzling...maybe PC could shed some light.

Paypal love sent to Carlo as deposit for my order.  Fiesta red, rosewood board (I know that's not authentic, but this is MY bass), mahogany body.
Cheers

Thanks, Mark!  I love working with mahogany.  I'm thinking about building two, one for you and one with the parts off my '65 Embassy.

BTW, if anyone is interested worldwide shipping is $85 via US Priority Mail for a JAEbird shipped with the neck off.

Interesting... the red one looks like it HAD a ring, but there's just the screws in these pics. And the black one mine was modeled after apparently never had one.

Cool pic!  The black body yours was modeled after seems more radical at the bridge end.  The PG and bottom horn in the Sunn ad look slightly different.  The bridge and knob locations relative to the body outline are different on all three.  They're all one offs!  I chose the Fiesta Red one due to personal preference and this pic in Bass Culture.  You can see the matching reflections on both the guard and body rings.  Whatever, we love 'em all.  Long Live Rock!

My wacko theories for missing rings:

Some of the donor 'Birds were NRs so they only had one ring.

Adjusting the truss rod involves removing 15 screws since there's no cut for adjustment in the guard.  Maybe JAE's tech got tired of that.  His action was so low that adjusting the neck was done quite often, strings got changed and setup checked for every show.

Carlo, I noticed that you list Tourquois as a color choice, what specific shade/type is that and do you hve a pic of it?
Nothing is what it seems but everthing is exactly what it is.

From top:Daphne Blue, Turquoise, Seafoam

If you have an exact shade in mind I can match a supplied sample for a slight upcharge.

i think 495. is too cheap. your custom bass should cost at least as much as the fender standard at 549. my 2 cents.

all you potential buyers can now throw something at your screens.

I always liked the Stratesque bass(shape mostly) but the 3 pup switch etc works for me . Looks like long scale !?
