Hollow body basguitars
« on: March 02, 2009, 11:59:56 AM »
I used the search option but I couldn't find any topic specialy made for hollow bodied bassguitars. So I figured well let's start my own. I would like to know if there are more Hollow bodied bassplayer out here. I've already seen a marvelous red EB-2 out here. But so far not many others.

My bunch of hollow's

At first the oldies.

From left to right
Magic EB - mid-60's bass made by the dutch Famos/Venlonia company under the magic brandname
Elite - early 60's bass italian made
Egmond Colorado bass - made in de mid 60's bij the dutch egmond factory
Ibanez 1915 bass. They said to me this was the first own dedesing bass built for the ibanez company. In the late 60,s early 70's. I really like the cutaways/horns on the one.

The new ones

A dean Stylist bass from 2006. Is a great looker, it's sounds great. But it's to big for me I guess almost never play it.
A noname hofner beatlebass ripoff bas it's from 2007. It plays en sounds great use it on stage once in a while.

So come on, post all of your hollow bodied bassguitars in here.

That Ibanez reminds me of my first bass, a Teisco which I got when I was 15.  Same color, similar design, but the headstock is different.

Nice collection, Saf! Great! I like the horns on the fourth bass of the first pic too!

I love semisolids and hollowbodies. It started with David Hollestelle of Herman Brood's Wild Romance playing 335s and Gretsches and of course Steve Marriott and Plonk Lane.

The hollow body basses I sold:
- 60s Vox Saturn IV
- Epiphone JCS. Needed the money for something else, but I'll buy one back once.
- Reverend Rumblefish IV. Hollow-ish bass;)
- DeArmond Starfire. I didn't use it anymore

The ones I still have:

- Ricky 4005WB:
- Epi Rivoli reissue

Starfire @ Paradiso:

Starfire @ 3FM:

JCS:

The 4005WB:

The Rivoli:

The Sheraton is my girlfriend's main axe. It has Gibson parts all over. Switch, pick ups, bridge... And before you ask: We don't have matching track suits;)

And a bonus: A Chinese Höfner I reviewed for De Bassist Magazine:

And another bonus: Two colleagues at Uwe's Eagles Nest:

Uwe with EB6:

I got a bit carried away;)

@chris that famous 3Fm hallway is very small in real life. It's was very late an I forgot my camera so I don't have any pics of playing in that hallway. I used my elite bass. An epi eb-2 will come one day. I love your ricks to. Think we have to team up once!

@leftybass. You're right a longhorn bass is kinda hollow too. Well in that case I forgot to name my longhorn en an old eko bass that's has a simular construction.

I have two hollowbodies - one working, one wanting for me to get off my lazy butt and install a pickup and electronics.

The 70's Univox 335-copy I love:

Next is the 70's Lyle single-pickup bass.  I have a Gretsch chrome soapbar pickup for this and I have a pair of period pickups from a Univox, Lyle or Epi that I bought on Ebay. I suspect the Gretsch pickup would sound best...but it would require at least a little bit of cutting to install. In the bottom pic, you can also see the surface scratches that I plan to fill using Dr. Bassman's superglue and razor blade trick.

The one that got away.  My M-85 semi-hollow body.  I used to play it for "Every Picture Tells A Story" when I had it.  The only one I regret selling, although that deal lead into the Embassy that I had for 20 years.

It's pretty, but the headstock is very bad repaired at the front. Well, not technically bad, but visually. But I guess someone can do something about that once..

And under the mudbucker cover is a Jazz pick up.

I still have my EB0 project and this one. I traded my Fender-spaced Darkstar for a normal one and maybe that pick up will end up in one of these basses. Dunno yet.

Did you join in on the Artec order from Bernardduur? One of those Artec mudbuckers would be perfect.

I didn't, but maybe I'll try to get in touch with Artec at the Messe.

I'm very curious about the artec pups, I signed in for three of them. Not knowing on witch bass they will end. But I'm shure I'll will find one that is suitable for thos pups.

Is the darkstar pickup really that great?
