Nikki Sixx
« on: January 10, 2013, 12:11:13 PM »
Not sure whether it's pertinent to post this here, but seeing as how he's a longtime TB user.  He's got a new Signature model coming along.  (This was posted to his Twitter/FB feed.)  Any speculation who he's signed up with?

"Excited to have @prbrownbauda photograph me with my new bass Friday.Gonna roll out my new signature bass & new partnership at NAMM"

He recently mentioned getting his SpectorBird out of storage and liking the sound. Wonder if that was part of research for the new model?

At least they make a Thunderbird............

Resident T Bird playing Drag Queen www.thenastyhabits.com  "Impülsivê", the new lush fragrance as worn by the unbelievable Fräulein Rômmélle! Traces of black patent leather, Panzer grease, mahogany and model train oil mingle and combust to one sheer sensation ...

He won't be playing some other brand, will he?

I have nothing against Spectors as such, but I hate it when they mess with TBirds.

I kind of liked that Spector that was a full mirror of the IV.

...but in those giddy pre-Internet days [well, over here at least] exposure to even images of Thunderbirds was very limited.  Sixx aside, I think I can only remember seeing TBs on two other occasions pre 1989/90 - stills of Overend Watts and Pete Way - and ownership was totally out of my reach...three or four months of my meagre office-junior salary.

I remember a mate of mine getting a satellite system installed just because Motley were going to be live from the Moscow Peace Festival that weekend and going particularly giddy at the Spectors Sixx was playing.  The two-a-side headstock design was an interesting twist and the full-reverse-reverse was another left curve.  Spector (and Hamer) do deserve a little credit for championing the design (albeit in limited quantities) when Gibson had pretty much given up the ghost in the bass market.

"Hmmmph, make no mistake, young man, it was my design.

I never heard of this Herr Spector, not much of an automan then, is he?"

I remember seeing the TBird with quite a few bands, even in the seventies: Jethro Tull, Mott the Hoople, Wishbone Ash, Doobie Brothers, UFO, Runaways,  Rainbow, Eloy, The Sweet ... it was a cool, outlandish and expensive appearing bass to own in Europe.

The rep at Sweetwater told me there is a "new" Nikki Sixx Thunderbird coming this Spring; but from what they said it's the same as the current model but with a Richlite fretboard as opposed to Ebony.

My favorite Japanese is Fin Ito. He urges me to stop collecting.

My Chinese buddy is Tai Ming. Though he is not always around when our drummer tries something new. Unreliable sod that Chinese is.

Tai Ming knows that every fin comes to he who waits...

Fin Ito also understands that all fins come to pass...
