Those repro Plexi TRCs
« on: April 14, 2021, 12:40:59 AM »
They're on eBay, they come in white, black and gold, they're not Ric, and unlike counterfeit raised letter TRCs they don't look bad. So I ordered one just out of curiosity to compare with the real vintage Plexi in my spare parts drawer and see if the $250+ vintage part is any better than a new $60 one. I'll update when it arrives.

It’s hard to understand how a small piece of plastic could acquire such value .
But I’m curious to hear what your opinion will be .

Looking forward to your report. I've been thinking about a black one while the getting is good. Though I've also been thinking of making something custom on the laser I have at work.  8)

I still have two 60s Fender neck shims (Strat-sized). Yours for only $400 each, shipping not included.

Above - early 70s, below - fake. Scroll down to my post showing a '67 TRC.

This is a '67 TRC for sale on eBay. Looks like the replica is very close. With a gentle relic'ing they would be almost indistinguishable.

How does it affect sound? Can you play heavy metal with it?

It’s hard to understand how a small piece of plastic could acquire such value .

Pure scarcity value. Rickenbacker themselves have a like-for-like policy on broken TRCs. They are also the one bit of the instrument that says 'Rickenbacker', so can be used to verify your instrument or dress up a copy.

I have a Chinese 3D TRC on my 4003 bass. The original pickguard was damaged by the previous owner, so I bought a Chinese repro unit.
