Forgive me Father for I have sinned
« on: March 04, 2021, 05:33:20 AM »
I'm looking at this newish maple-neck 4003S in "Plumglo" and thinking, this is actually Burgundy Mist, right? How cool would it look with a Fender-y 4-ply beveled-edge tort guard?

This is a safe place. You can write Fender without asterisks, talk about tort, even replacement pickups and BadAss bridges. It's all good.

Now, just for shits and giggles, I'll post an identical message over there.

Seems more pink than burgundy. Not a fan of tort guards on Rics. I'm also not digging the maple 'boards they've been putting out there lately (Though for some reason, I like them on the original 4004L models). Just my personal opinion.

I would make an identical pickguard out of matt white acrylic and maybe put a subtle roundover on the edges. I'm not convinced a tort pickguard would work as I never really like them with maple necks.

I'm not too surprised the Resourceful Ricksters can't get their head around the suggestion and default to 'go with a go pickguard'. I always think gold pickguards look dowdy on Rickenbackers.

Turn your 4003 into an ugly piece of mid-century furniture with this one easy step...

I would go to a hardware store or Stewmac and buy some Fiebing dye.  Then pry out those black dots and stick some pearloid ones in. Then wipe the board down with the dye and darken it up. String it back up and have fun.

Rather than tort, I'd dress it up with a white pearloid PG to add some interest to that bland color....like so...

Just say no to that color.
