Gibson Basses / Re: Which EB for me?

And from reading what Uwe has to say, I'm pretty sure the SG-Z is the EB for me.

A couple of my old band mates were previously in the remains of The Flock, whom Kansas idolized.  These guys got to go backstage, and Kansas treated them like royalty.

Forgive me for coming to this thread late, and staying off topic, but is this The Flock that had the hit "Can't You See"?  If it is, their bassist was awesome. He was the first guy I'd seen using all eight fingers, and on a Fireglo 4001, IIRC.

Other Bass Brands / Re: Carvin B4

Used Carvins are a great value for the money.

That they are. I have a few Carvins. I bought a TBS4 for the thin neck and quilted top. When I started playing the crowded bars downtown I thought I'd buy a cheap bass that I wouldn't care much when it got cymbal dinged or whatever. I found a B4 on ebay for around a little over $300. It has become my favorite bass. It is very light, has a great neck, plays and sounds great.

Yea, $629 for a new one is a bargian. You won't be disappointed.

I'm in Northwest Ohio and it woke me up. I knew right away it was an earthquake, wondered how big and how far away it was and went back to sleep.

Later, searching the internet for news I found the Ohio Seismic Network and a link to report an earthquake http://pasadena.wr.usgs.gov/shake/cus/ that is for the central US. The highlighted event is the one that made the news, others appear as they are reported and disappear if they are not confirmed. You can see a map of reports in the area showing how severe it felt by region, and a list of cities the reports came from, how many reports, and the severity. Pretty cool.

24 school kids killed this year. That's just in Chicago!
Philadelphia, Cleveland & Detroit all have similar issues.

It's not working, our gun system - sorry

Something has to be done

It's not the gun system that is not working. It's the school and justice system that is not working. What's the rap for murder in Chicago? How many death row inmates are waiting on years of appeals? The Justice system needs to be strict and swift.

Laws banning guns cannot be expected to have any better results than laws banning heroin.

I happen to have one handy. Standard Humbucker sized with 4 leads for series/parallel operation. It measures 7.25 and 7.47 Kohms on each coil seperately, and 14.72 Kohms when wired series humbucking. Mine is black, but they were available in cream also.

What I can't see is buying a Carvin, Peavy, Lakland Skyline or Warwick new , then losing 50% or more walking out the door. I also like getting a bass with some mojo, so I don't have tom worry about scratching it, you can just play it

But you can a real nice Carvin on ebay pretty cheap. And they're darn good basses too.

Yea, that was good, but I really liked the one where they tried to kill a Toyota pickup, and no matter what they did it would still drive away.

Given the fact that I drive a Toyota ocasionally ...

Gibson Basses / Re: 65 NR Thunderbird on Ebay: Rare color?

I saw that.  Ax-in-Hand used to be one of the premier places to find vintage guitars and basses.  Larry (RIP) who started it, was a great guy and educated me a lot about Gibson vs. Epiphone basses.  I bought/sold/traded 4 basses with him in the late '70s.

Wow, I used to visit there in the late 70's myself. I bought my first Rick 4001 there in 1979 when the headstock on my NR bird broke for the first time. Gene Liberty had his repair shop upstairs from Ax-in-Hand. He repaired the headstock and installed the 2 Dimarzio Model 1 pickups that I bought downstairs. Since I couldn't remain bassless while it was being fixed (or maybe saw the JetGlo 4001 and fell in love with it), my guitar playing friend loaned me the money to buy the 4001.

All their early hits like Kicks, Hungry, Just Like Me, Steppin Out had prominent bass lines. Which is why after Fang left they weren't so great anymore.

Looks like Fang played an Epi Embassy at one point:
