Always worth a premium ...
« on: June 27, 2008, 06:43:25 AM »
Hurry, this stuff is getting rarer and rarer, havn't seen a pre-CBS mudbucker in a long time ...

http://cgi.ebay.com/VINTAGE-GIBSON-GUITAR-BASS-PICKUP-PRE-CBS-WITH-CONTROLS_W0QQitemZ290241473509QQihZ019QQcategoryZ2384QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Of course, the lawyer in me could argue that it is not inherently a wrong statement as CBS - now in the guise of Sony - could still launch a corporate attack on Gibson today and then ...

The Fender stuff from the Kalamazoo plant is great too. Much better than what they manufactured in that California dump.

Yep, you can't argue with that. Everything Gibson ever made is still pre-CBS.

Hmm.. I could use an old mudbucker and controls for my EB0 project. Maybe I'll have a go.

I picked one of those up a few months back for $80.  The output might be unstable, so I'm going to send it to Jason Lollar for a rewind.  The seller refunded my $20 because of that.

Well, then, everything non-Fender or not owned currently by Fender can be called pre-CBS. What's next? A pre-CBS Wishbass?

Maybe we can promote this forum as the only pre-CBS bass forum on earth?

LOL  :D

I nearly bought a wishbass a few months ago. Probably the first one I've seen that had a shape that appealed to me. They are pretty cheap to buy so I figured why not. Got outbid at the last minute.

The one below is definitely pre CBS because I checked

If Wishbass just refined the concept by using adj truss rods and paying closer attention to final sanding and finishing he might be on to something. Having to shim a bridge when it rains is just daffy.

Yeah, the finish thing I can kinda deal with but the whole no truss thing is kinda hard to swallow.

Although the guy who owned the one in the pics has apparently had it travel with him from the Middle East to Europe to South East Asia then tropical Queensland Australia to cold Melbourne Victoria Aust. and Swears that the neck hasn't budged once.
