I had one of these once in near mint condition, great bass. I am very sorry I sold it. It now resides at the House Of Guitars in Rochester NY. Every time I go in the store  I think about buying it back.

That is a rare bass, and interesting too. Real shame about the neck plate - and the scratchplate will be hard to get. price seems ok I guess - nobody else has jumped on it. Theres no way i'd refin that though.

Heres my early Newport (though not quite as early as that one) that I also got for a steal.

I guess there are lots of people out there who could make that pick guard with the ricght tracing?

Talking about the pick guard:

I was studying the pics above and I noticed the following:

- The eBay one hasn't one
- The one pick up green one has a long pick guard
- The two pick up red one has a short pick guard

If you see the controls on the green one, a long pick guard would never fit.

Are these basses made with two kinds of guards?

I'm with you Uwe: Like someone else and I said: The simplicity is very nice and I like it without pickguard to. But if one would like a pick guard I guess it isn't hard to get one made.

The pickguard should be like this - different from the other two (from the 1961 Epiphone catalogue)
