BOLLOCKS!!  I don't have a stinkin' problem, no problem at all, I could stop at any point in time.  I mean, my Gibson thing is just recreational   ;D

Actually - I blame Gene Simmons. I wore out a copy of Alive and leaned how to play most of that album on my 6th hand Tiesco.  But looking at all of the shots of those Grabbers got to me and I got natural alder Ripper for Chrsitmas when I was 14.  I, in a moment of early mahogany lost, sold it to buy a Magnum, which was sold to by a pristine 62 Pbass...... a brief trifling with an early 70's EB0.

Three years ago after about a twenty year hiatus - work, family, bills - I came back to lusting for Gibson.  I have just one real Gibson, Studio 4, and my Fbird.  Still, I'm looking for good deals, Yes - I am a cheap Bastid!  When somehing pops up that works I'll pounce.

I also have a NOS Ripper/RD neck that will become my hog/maple RD.

Actually, it looks like Gibson is taking them over - the TC CEO is going to be the new COO.  I would think that Henry J. is probably still running the show and will be the overall CEO.

Gibson Basses / Re: RD Standard pickups? How do they sound?

Kind of what I was thinking - OK, but not fantastic.

I have to admit that I like the MM Humbucker + single coil setup.  Seems like you have many options when you consider a coil tap on the rear MM humbucker?

Active is not out of the picture but I'm kind of a passive type.

So, would you put them in a new RD build?  Is it worth it to go "old" or should I try something else?

Gibson Basses / RD Standard pickups? How do they sound?
« on: January 16, 2008, 07:07:20 PM »
Jules and John suggested that I look at the Greatdealz guys for an RD Standard pickgaurd loaded with pickups.

Are these just G3 single coil pickups or are they totally different?  What do they sound like?

I think $77.00 sounds like a good deal to me - provided that the pickups sound good.

I've pretty much decided that this bass will be maple capped mahogany FWIW.

I also really like Trinity Blood.

I record them from cable on my DVR, I just can't stay up that late anymore.

Yeah, I know about that!  Love the DVR the girls forced me to get :-[

Be careful though ol' timer - next thing you know you and the wife will be eating dinner at the sizzler at 4:30 PM for "earlybird" special

Adobe illustrator does that.

But not all vector files are the same - check with your vendor before you get too carried away.  Some of the stuff that the sign guys use is proprietory.

There's no way to say it other than the RR nitro is delicate, if not the most delicate nitro around.

If you could use up an entire gallon of McFaddens you could use RR for the colors and overcoat with the McFaddens clear.  This might get you more durable finish.  You could probably shoot two or three dozen basses with a gallon of laquer though - thats a lot of birds.

"So, I can take back the silver plate soup tureen I bought you guys?"

Not so fast!.... I'll hunt him down and drag his kicking and screaming little self to the altar........

Tell you what Mark - you get him to the alter and show some photographic proof of the wedding, please, not the honeymoon! - and I'll have the thing chrome plated and engraved with both your names and interlocking Thunderbirds! :o

Maybe we can get Uwe to start an internet church and get himself ordained - he could perform the service ::)

Ok, so I'm hooked on Bleach and Blood +.  It all started inocently enough ::)  Now I have to record my shows in case I'm busy or fall asleep in front of the set :-[

I'm now really hooked on Shin Chan - funny as all get out.  I'm not sure how they show this on Japanese TV though.  My Avatar is "Action Bastard" form Shin Chan - Action Bastard is the serial show that Shin has to watch everyday - think Monty Python meets the Power Rangers meets Jackass.

I believe that Gibson's Tbird logo is a hot stamp?  How I don't know.  I do know that Jeanine's said that there were legal issues with an exact reproduction - I would think especially if sold for profit.

As far as vinyl goes - if someone made an accurate scan - say as a TIFF format , then this could be taken to sign shop that would convert the TIFF format (raster) to VECTOR type format ( think Autocad or CNC langauge ).  Once the file is converted it's ready to cut.  If someone has this done make sure that you get the VECTOR file format - some places will keep this file and force you to only use them.  If you had the file the vinyl could be cut anywhere.

You may have to hunt for someone that has the application to convert Raster to Vector - many sign shops just have tons of preloaded images and fonts that they use.  When you see a minivan with sticker on the back glass that says "Bubba" under a soccer ball then you know what I'm talking about.

I've read multiple times over at the RR board that MANY people have chipped paint just starting screws.  I've always polished and assembled mine starting on the 30th day - being the impatient type.
