wearing a ring while playing?
« on: January 02, 2013, 09:48:37 AM »
I've been married a little over six years - we didn't get rings until a couple of years in (we were married in Japan and didn't have a ceremony), but I noticed when I started wearing it that it hit against the neck sometimes, and I wondered if I might be scratching up the neck. I meant to ask about it here several years ago - what y'all do, not just wedding rings, any kind of ring - but never got to it. Now there's a thread about it at notreble.com but I thought I would ask you guys.

I often wear mine while playing - no problem, no damage, no issue.

I used to wear mine all the time and had no real issues - I did notice it clatter the edge of the frets on occasion... not presently worn at all as it got damaged at work and kept cutting my finger...

I have been married 24 years now it'll be 25 in April, 26 together. When I first got the ring it used to bug me when I play now I don't even notice it. I sometimes wonder why I wear it, it has almost stripped the flesh off my finger on more than one occasion.

That's how mine got damaged and is always a risk when carrying out manual work...

Ring on fretting hand; small hands/short fingers and really need to stretch out to reach those 5ths sometimes. Not a problem; certainly no damage and don't even notice any clanging.  Don't think the ring has ever touched the neck, but maybe I just don't notice.

I used to wear a lot more rings but now all all about less jewelry - no more necklaces, watches and non-wedding rings.... the  piercings seem to be the only exception.

I wear rings on each hand, but not while doing any kind of manual labor.

Gotta be careful though, even stepping up on a chair or desk can result in the above kind of injury if you hook the ring on something while stepping back down.

I always wear mine and never noticed any clattering on the frets/strings until we went with IEM's.  I've not had it off since I was married nearly 15 years ago.

...and that's not the pic I was looking for.  Many years ago I saw a poster in a garage of a greasy severed finger, ring still attached.  Didn't have or need a caption.

Even with a pair of trousers in between, I find it sometimes rubbing uncomfortably against the back of the bass' body. That's just me though. Some of you might actually like it.  :-X
