Chromey Checkerboard 'Bird
« on: February 09, 2010, 09:19:36 PM »

While visiting Mike Lull's last Friday I spied this chromey checkerboard beauty!

I NEED THIS BASS
   ;D

Alas, it belongs to Pearl Jam's Jeff Ament. Likely it'll become his Sig model, I understand Tom Peterson is pretty interested in one too.

No, me too. :o
The pots look too close to each other, and the lower horn looks too big.
But maybe that's because my eyes are hurting...

It's shaped like a standard 'Bird the camera angle accentuates the lower bout, and the arm carve on the uppermakes it look smaller too. Interestingly tho the body on this bass is 15% bigger than my Lull and is thinner, done at Jeff's request.

So there was someting wrong with the proportions.

It looked about the same as one of my '76s...........

This one's proportions are all the same, it's just bigger. Not disproportionate in any one place.

I don't get it.
It's bigger, right?
Then the proportions are different. In relation to the body the neck is smaller and so are the pickups.

Interesting. Look at how many frets it has. Can you actually reach 'em!

The backside is pretty clever as this pic of mine shows - you can easily reach the higher frets, tho I "don't go there"  ;)

Here's Jeff Ament playing it, he's a big guy! Mmmm yeah lefty headstock too.
