How to explain?
« on: May 09, 2012, 01:59:24 AM »
Okay, I like Precisions, but I don't like black basses in general. Black Rickies are nice, but most basses are too 'metal' and basses like Precisions are too 'normal' in black with white guard and rosewood boards.

But this day I woke up, all of a sudden, with GAS for an all black P (black body + black guard) with a maple board. Like the Roger Waters Uwe has, or one just with chrome hardware.

I don't know why.

I will do that.

I interviewed The Australian Pink Floyd Show for an article about how it is to play in such a band. Background article. Maybe that's why.

It's a nice color combo. The maple board makes it less 'goth'. To me a black/black P w/maple neck looks classic punk rock. But unlike the Roger Waters sig I like mine with a laminated pickguard and TV logo.

A P is a great tool to have in your arsenal.  Black on Black with maple is a nice look, too.  I see no reason you shouldn't indulge yourself.   ;)

I've got a black 'guard on my black Geddy Lee Jazz with the maple 'board/black blocks/black binding and it looks great IMHO.  ;D

I'm not a huge fan of black basses myself, however, I do have a black/chrome G&L L2k-T that I really like:

Just look at that...one guy confesses unrequited Precision lust, and all these Fenders come out of the closet.

I'll stick with my '63....and my 2000 MIM J.  Both in tasteful non-black.

Here's my only black one...and a real favorite with the Gretsch pickup...

I have a MM Sub and SUB Sterling, both matte black with non-laminated matte black guards. Nothing metal or punk about them, they just look good IMHO.

There's my black fretless Jazz, with black bridge and machines and the ebanol neck, and then I sprayed the face of the head black, and... and... :vader:

Love that black+maple combo on Fenders.  My MIJ P is like that:
