Title: I'm caring for an orphaned single pup Greco bird
Post by: Aussie Mark on December 03, 2015, 01:54:54 PM
After buying a rare single pup Greco bird from this very forum a few years ago that was an absolutely marvellous bass, and then regretting selling it, I've been constantly pining for another ever since.  So yesterday I hit the BIN on a broken headstock example from a Japanese eBay seller, so in a week or so I'll get to find out if the break is an easy "glue and clamp" repair as the photos on ebay suggest.  I'll keep you posted.

The price was around half what I'd expect to pay for an intact example without a hard case, so I think I did ok.

Great looking bass

Are you going to do the repair?  That looks like a good candidate to cut your teeth on.  Looks like the finish touchup wouldn't be bad either...

Yes, this will be my DIY project.  And some minor finish repairs is also on the agenda.

You already know what an awesome bass it is! Congratulations, and give it some Aussie TLC!

Any updates?

It arrived within 3 days as expected - amazing service via EMS.

I've been interstate with the family for a couple of weeks so am planning to get moving on this project sometime in the next week or so.  Some more photos of the damage, nothing too scary ....

As breaks go, that doesn't look too bad.

Mark, am I imagining it or is your pickup closer to the neck than mine? Maybe it's just the middle pick guard screws position?
Here's mine- it has an E77 serial #.

Russ, yes, it does look closer based on the photos.

My previous single pup Grecobird (bought from this forum, and now owned by Bloodmason) had the pickup in a slightly different location as well, so maybe they routed them randomly LOL ...
