Title: NBD 2013 Gibson NR
Post by: godofthunder on December 22, 2014, 04:04:13 PM
Well I should have passed on this but I sold the first one I bought. Curt at the HOG found a pellham blue one in the basement. I should have one, Bill and I consulted us on this, not that they listened. I am not as critical as when I bought the first one, a perfectly good bass, just not much in common with a 60's NR. For most that is probably a good thing. Pics tomorrow. Merry Christmas to me ;)

Congrats. I do remember how you and Bill were consulted and how the higher-ups ignored this. But so long as you can accept it for what it is, you should enjoy it.

Sounds like the resolution of a long-time regret!

I'm sure the NR project started with enthusiasm at Gibson but succumbed to the convenience (and cost savings) of using current off the shelf parts.
I like mine except for the body being too thick and the damn thing is so heavy.

Congrats on the new bass! I still kind of regret selling my tobacco Explorer so quickly. One helluva looker! Odds are, some new pots would have gotten me the sound I had expected it to have.

Well I could hardly pass it up for the price! They only made 400 of them and I doubt I'll ever see Gibson enter these waters again. I have it all set up super low action. For now the only change I am going to make is sort out the controls, I'll even live with the black hardware. I plan on giving it some stage time as a back up, I have not had a modern Thunderbird onstage in years, I'd like to be able to fully review the bass in it's stock form. maybe at some pint I'll chrome it out and put a Thunderbucker in the neck position.(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v102/godofthunder59/2013NRThunderbird001_zpsfe74a3f9.jpg)(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v102/godofthunder59/2013NRThunderbird002_zpsb37650fa.jpg)(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v102/godofthunder59/2013NRThunderbird003_zps749ca063.jpg)

Pretty!  I'm generally a sucker for the color blue, and that's a nice one.

One can never have enough NRs :) Not to be critical of this bass but I'd take a Bach TH-1 anyday. Basses are all Different and I love 'em all. ;D

Very nice!  I love mine.  Chances are I will never be able to afford a real one, so when this fell in my lap, I couldn't resist!  One of 400 isn't anything to sneeze at!  :)

I think the black looks pretty great with that color and shape.  Not so much on anything else.

I would have loved it if the body and neck were a bit thinner but I do like the sound of mine.  I've used it a few times in the studio and its been great. Definitely worth having one as backup.

Great color combination, you only need a black pickguard now! :D

Nice score Scott.  I still have and like mine, even though Gibson didn't take our advice.  I do like my mods better, though.   8)

Now that's how it should have looked, beautiful bass, Bill.

Thanks, it improved the look immensely.  I wish it didn't have the bridge, small headstock, mini tuners, and volute.  Otherwise, it's perfect!  ????

That does look sweet Bill!  Maybe I'll chrome mine out to!

Helps prevent neckdive and broken headstock though  8)

There you go being practical.  I wanted a genuine reissue, warts and all.

It was easy.  I already had the bridge and pups on hand.  I have a Pelham blue LP Sig  Midtown which looks great with its chrome hardware.  I'm sure the NR would too!  Psssss....don't let Uwe see this!

I'm genuinely relieved that you are not in charge of having the Titanic rebuilt because I would see room for some slight improvements!
