Anybody play one of these--what's the build quality like?

I have one at e flat---sixth position on the a string on my Pace---it drives me nuts, and it's right in the middle of the playing field.

I tried one also, but it was poorly set up and felt cheap...

I was impressed w/ Zak

He stepped into Moons shoes, yet doesn't imitate.

That actually sounds about right.

I usually set it a little "loose" on the dollar with rounds....a little "tighter" w/ flats. G string is usually at the dollar on the 15th fret.  Yes, I am kind of OCD about this.

I set it where I get an o-k sound with a flat pick...that is usually where I have zero fret noise and a real good sound w/ my fingers.

Just figured out that I made about $3,000 playing music last year (working my ass off)...kind of makes it difficult to justify that kind of expense.

Specially when a T-Bird or Jazz is so much more affordable.  I e-mailed the Musiciansfriend for a price and it was $100 off list (for a 4003)...just below $2,000.

Maybe I think about this stuff differently since I'm an accountant?

I would love to find a 4003 locally, but the used prices on these things are insane...Ric with flats was my sound for a lot of years...

I paid $300 for my 4001 in the early 80's...

Cinti craigslist has a beat player (80's or 90's) for $1400?

When did the price on these go thru the ceiling?

Whatever the bass, I slide a silver dollar under the E string at the 12th fret...use it for a feeler gauge.

G string side is proportionately lower.

I first remember the chrome Fender mudbucker in the early 70's 72 or so?

I think late 60's teles used a single coil.

I'll second that by the late 70's, I had a quartz tuner with a needle, maybe korg or something

Think it's a vestige from the past.  The only place I've encountered it is in classical music.

I don't mind reading treble clef...I read it as poorly or as well as I read bass clef...'
Was handed a sight reading piece back in school at boards a billion years ago that was in tenor clef....I think the original was a trombone part maybe.  Of course I had no idea what to do with it.

I do think you can get a stronger "percussion" or "thud" from flats

I keep 1 Dano w/ flats and 1 w/ rounds (I need flexible rounds for some styles of music)...

Use flats on the EUB, also...I just put a new set of Fender Medium light flats on the EUB, after getting frustrated w/ tapewounds...they feel like bridge cables, but with high action, they reproduce the slap sound better than anything I've found.  They just kind of hit the fingerboard and go thunk.
