Other Bass Brands / Triumph copy - any ideas?
« on: February 05, 2009, 03:47:15 PM »
Can anyone suggest the origins of this Triumph copy? Doesn't look like the Ibanez ones. I found a picture of a similar guitar with the same control plate layout badged Franpton (yes, 'n', not 'm'), but I've never come across that label before.

Looks like a very pretty copy. Does anyone know anything about JJ? (I've seen their web site. Looks like quality work.)

Bill's Shop: Projects, Mods & Repairs / Fried preamp?
« on: November 20, 2008, 09:05:19 AM »
Is there any way of telling whether a pre-amp is working using, for example, a multi-meter?

Reason I ask is I have an OPB1 that I installed and it worked, then took it out, then tried to reinstall it and couldn't get it to work. I checked batteries and wiring, and it all looked ok, but can't get a sound out of it. Bass works passive, so I thought I may have fried the preamp while soldering, but I'm looking for a way of double checking it.

Gibson Basses / Dark Star'd Epi EB3

turned up on UK eBay. A Fred H special. Unless there's a lot of activity in the next 3 hours, looks like it could go for the cost of the pickups alone.

I thought about it, but I'd probably only want the pickups to put in something else. And then what do you do with a routed Epi EB3 body?

Am I getting seduced by colour here? This looks gorgeous.

I assume it's a Japan only model, as all I can find on Google is in Japanese. Trouble is, by the time I got it home with shipping and tax I'd be paying the same as for an MIJ Fender.  ???

Other Bass Brands / 1970s Ibanez TBirds - any good?
« on: September 14, 2008, 02:57:12 PM »
Our guitarist helpfully pointed out our mutual guitar tech has a 1970s Ibanez Tbird up for sale. Headline price looks high, but negotiable I think. Going to look at it would mean a trip out of my way and I'm just wondering if it's even worth it. In general, were they any good?

The Outpost Cafe / Something else to blame Apple for
« on: July 31, 2008, 06:26:35 AM »
According to another highly statistically significant survey, iPods are to blame for people not knowing the lyrics to songs.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2474146/iPod-generation-doesnt-know-the-words.html

Apparently it's the "National Year of Reading" over here, which I first took to be Reading, pronounced "Redding", a town in southern England that holds a large annual rock festival. But,no, it's reading, as in books.

True to form, the Daily Star's write-up is more entertaining.
