Oh, and get this nonsense.

The detective told me that someone had posted pics of one of the basses on Craigslist, so he printed the pics out. When I told him that was me posting and it was my bass, it made me suspicious so I asked him if anyone had given him pics of the guitars and he said, "nope".

I can't believe that, if you are serious about looking for your stolen instruments, you wouldn't give the cops detailed descriptions and photos. So, I went on the internet and emailed him pics of a pink paisley Strat and a Fender Electric XII, just like the two stolen from Mitch.

Doesn't seem to me that the victims (other than me) are looking too hard for the stolen instruments...

Now that's a little suspicious. I already wondered if the thieves might have had some inside info from someone in another band. If no one else seems to be looking hard, maybe there's a reason.

IMO, going to the police is like going to the hospital, you or someone else has to take a personal interest in your case or you won't get the full attention of the professionals unless you're a big wig or there's a lot of publicity.  I guess it depends where you grew up and what you expect from "those in charge."

I personally think the whole thing is suspicious, but I feel obligated to verbally express certain things and not put them in writing...

Absolutely no new information on this lately. The detective told me they are at a dead end unless the guitars resurface or they catch the guy with the Crown Vic.
However, true to his word, Mitch did send me a check for the loss of the Jerry Jones. That's a positive though I still miss that bass!

I'm glad you got the check. It doesn't replace your bass, though, and somebody still knows something.

Definitely won't replace that bass. Even the guy from the local Jerry Jones dealer said that color (Seaburst) was damn rare. I'll keep looking though!

Funny thing is, I don't want another one. Mine was the one I wanted from the first time I saw it.

That's understandable, especially in light of your suspicions. That bass is probably still around the area, someone is laying low.

You could always post one of those "reward offered for the safe return of...no questions asked" kind of deals. That might get someones attention. Plus if you had a friend or two snooping around at the planned meeting place, you might get a license plate # or something else to help track the thieves. Not a perfect plan, but it might get your bass returned.

Just in case, you might want to put the police detective's number on your speed dial.

Good luck - maybe one of the vendors there might recognize the JJ if you bring a picture.
I'm bringing my Dano '63 RI to hopefully sell there - gotta be better than responding to the cretins on Craigslist.
